So beautiful....this should be the blueprint for all urban area redevelopments in SF. I know they're going to re-develop the Caltrain railyard and Central SoMa...it should look like this. Not the blocky mid-rise boilerplate we saw in Mission Bay.

The centerpiece has been extended to facilitate the next levels of crown and lighting installation.

So we only have a couple of dozen feet to go until topping out?

^ Indeed! It's been a fun 8 years watching this thing go from being a model at City Hall to what we have now.

Going back to the first post on this thread...the close up of the crown shows four levels of the walkways botoxic talks about. That means the crown will double from its current height.

Also, while certainly not as glamorous as the crown, does anyone have good pics into the parking pit?

To my eyes that isn't quite correct. I count 9 "levels" (roughly equivalent to floors in height) above the highest occupied floor. It appears that the lowest 3 of these are the mechanical penthouse, surrounding the top portion of the concrete core and eventually covered with a glass "skin". Above that we will have 6 "levels" of the crown, covered with the metal screen and, presumably, containing whatever lighting is planned. It appears there is a walkway at the top (interior) of the mechanical penthouse skin frame/bracing and at the top of each of 3 2-level sections of the frame/bracing for the crown's metal skin.

So that means, yes, probably 4 levels of walkways (assuming there is one at the very top) but also that we have 2 2-level sections of metal crown frame/bracing to go which will be approximately 1 level short of doubling the height of the structure above the top occupied floor from what we have now.

The issue here is that the lowest 3 floor-equivalent levels of the structure above the highest occupied foor, which house the mechanical equipment and top of the core and will be glass-covered, are not quite identical, either in the structure of the framing panels (you can see there is a difference between the lower x-braced panels of framing and the upper of the two framing groups, a total of 5 levels out of 9, that are there now) or in their height, with the metal crown frame/bracing being installed above them.

Hard to say all this--hope I've been clear.

Yes, I made a mistake. The entire crown will not double, but the "normal" X-braced sections will triple, as two more sections are to be added.

Can't wait till they take that blue cover off and stack the glass up to the top. Can't come soon enough.

I don't know, botoxic. I think there's another whole level of steel (by level I mean set of X-braces) above what they just began installing.

Then you would be in agreement, as he said this set was the penultimate.

It's what we've all been saying; Botoxic knows how to say it properly.

Wow, by end of the week it will probably be topped. Been a good show, half of it being not visible since it was being dug out and constructed underground for years. It looks very nice, some third party renderings not done by Pelli made it look fat and bulbous but it's very slender and it's shape makes it look taller than it is. Now future generations can be in awe of it just like I was when I saw the pyramid as a child.

Please whisper that quietly because it means the tower will be more "pointy" and that's trouble.

I'm pretty sure that's right, at least if the initial renderings are accurate.

Naw. With 2 more what I've called "levels" or 1 more x-braced frame above what they've begun, I'm betting it'll be another week. But it shouldn't be long--didn't they say it would be in March at one point?
