There's Manhattan West, which already has 2 towers completed, or near complete. There's 3 Hudson Boulevard as well as the Spiral that are well underway. And many more to follow. All of this is the Hudson Yards.

My understanding was that HY Phase 1 was limited to the five axis + Fiddy Hud towers and that Spiral, MW, 3 HB et al were peripheral to it.

Thanks for the clarification.

These should clear it up further...

Originally, the largest of the Hudson Yards towers were to be the "four corners" towers (50 Hudson, 55 Hudson, 3 Hudson, the Spiral) and the 2 Penn Plaza site were to have an unlimited FAR, but the City Council didn't like the idea of no control on sizes. So 2 Penn was cut off, and the four corners were give max FARs.

A portion of the development rights to build the office towers along Hudson Boulevard (in blue) come from the railyards.

Four Corners

2 Penn

Eventually, the western railyard was rezoned to join the rest of the Hudson Yards (after the stadium failed), which eventually led to bidding on the railyards by different development teams. The initial winner was Tishman Speyer (who is now building the Spiral), who then backed out. Related was there to pick up the pieces, and we eventually got to where we are today.

Rosanna Scotto and Lori Stokes took a tour of the Hudson Yards development on the West Side of Manhattan as completion day neared. From a first Equinox Hotel to a Dog City day care, developer Stephen Ross said this is like nothing the city has seen before. While more development is expected in the years to come, opening day for Phase 1 is set for March 15, 2019.

Just to clarify for others, because I think there's some confusion in the labeling. Hudson yards originally and still just refers to the property over the rail yards - phase 1 and 2 of related's plans south of 33rd street. The Hudson yards DISTRICT is a broader plan for the west side- encompassing the yards, Hudson boulevard, the 7 train ext, etc. And the reason these projects have become more interconnected is because related went ahead and bought the sites directly north of Hudson hards and corralled it into their own development. I'm sure the margins were much better on the 2 terra firma sites to the north of the yards, and helped sell the numbers of the whole project when they became a part of the picture.

Well, you're wrong and only contributing to the confusion. The Hudson Yards rezonubg has ALWAYs been that entire district. Every new tower tgat's goibg up in that area is a part of the plan. The western half of the railyards didn't even include towers originally, as it was to be the site of a stadium for the JETS. When that plan didn't go through, they had to rezone that portion of the railyards as well.

Related's proposal is a part of that district, but Hudson Yards encompasses that entire area in the rezoning. That's why you aways hear about new towers or proposals in the Hudson Yards.

Obviously, Related's massive development is Hudson Yards as well.

Stop being dense we're saying the same thing. Yes the rezoning was of the whole district. But the only project being called Hudson Yards (PERIOD)(TRADEMARKED) is the development by Related. Everything else in the rezoning area is a part of the 'Special Hudson Yards District'.

https://www1.nyc.gov/assets/planning...ext_011905.pdf

And yes, colloquially 'Hudson yards' has become shorthand for everything within the rezoning district.

Yes, Related is calling everything on its site Hudson Yards (is this news?), we've known this from the beginning. It's one of the main reasons why Extell's site was traded with the Related site on 8th Avenue, Extell also had a tower refered to as 1 Hudson Yards (which was trademared as well).

But every tower going up in that area is the Hudson Yards, so I still don't know where your confusion is coming from. Everyone knows this, everyone who has payed attention from the beginning has always known this.

As far as the other towers, of course they are referred to as Hudson Yards, but will use their more specific addresses (3 Hudson Boulevard) or names (the Spiral, aka 66 Hudson Boulevard) but are all Hudson Yards towers.

That reminds me. I was in the City of NY Museum a few months ago, and a model of this was displayed (just the 2). People were impressed with the design relationship of the two towers. I don't even think they were aware that it existed in real life, it was as if it was their first time seeing the buildings. Of course, in reality the towers are surrounded by other buildings. But you can still see the relationship between the two.

Back when only 10HY was built it sure seemed impressive in its own right. It's a testament to 30Y that it can make such a massive building seem small.

All of those open areas should be decked over and made into parks. The air rights could be sold to developers. At the moment, the area between 9th and 10th is a wasteland that is not appropriate for the area.
