Do you have inside info about the third assemblage? I think that includes 41 W 57th and Haddasah on 58th. I read something about it not long ago.

There's also a fourth site on the south side of 57th near 6th with a lot that's been vacant for years.

I know something about ownership, but not specific plans. In any case, watch the DOB filings in coming months.

I recall from the article that I read that they plan to proceed soon despite the condo glut. I think it’s going to be pretty tall.

^^^^

I like this trend lately. Good optimism for the coming years. No sense in delaying it, when they could find the appropriate sales in time due. Its risky, but there will be buyers, just might take longer with the glut, but it'll happen.

Demo Permits Filed For 10-14 And 20 West 57th Street In Midtown, Manhattan

Quote:
Demolition permits have been filed for two buildings at 10-14 West 57th Street and 20 West 57th Street in Midtown, Manhattan. Located between 5th Avenue and 6th Avenue, the sites are steps away from the 57th Street subway station, serviced by the F train. Anthony Calicchio of Solow Realty & Development Group is listed as the owner behind the applications. Solow Realty has been methodically purchasing parcels on West 57th Street, including 7, 10-14, 16, 20-22; all near their quintessential luxury residential property—9 West 57th Street.

At 10-14 West 57th Street, there is presently a 10-story commercial and office building built in 1916, yielding 81,174 square feet. 20 West 57th Street currently houses an 8-story office building built in 1928, with a gross 37,241 square feet of commercial space.

New construction permits for a 52-story mixed-use tower were filed in April of 2018 for 10-14 West 57th Street. The proposed 672-foot tall development will yield 392,555 square feet, with a mix of commercial and residential space. It is unclear what plans are held for 20 West 57th Street.

An estimated completion date has not been announced.

On a side note, look at that abomination of a paint job on the car.

Demolition Begins At 10-14 West 57th Street, One Of Several Upcoming Projects By Sheldon Solow In Midtown

Quote:
Demolition has begun on the building that currently stands at 10-14 West 57th Street to clear the way for a 52-story mixed-use skyscraper, according to permits filed in early February. Scaffolding has been assembled and black construction netting now shrouds the entire low-rise structure.

James Patterson of Ancora Engineering is the applicant of record. Sheldon Solow, chairman of Solow Realty & Development Group, is the developer for the site while Anthony Calicchio is listed as the owner behind the applications. Solow also purchased a number of other adjacent and nearby parcels that include 20-22 and 16 West 57th Street, and on the opposite side of the street he has acquired 7 West 57th Street, along with several other plots of land on West 56th Street.

Construction permits for the upcoming 672-foot-tall, 383,000-square-foot skyscraper were filed in the spring of 2018. Skidmore Owings & Merrill will design the new 80-unit tower, which will contain 202,738 square feet of residential space. The building’s first four floors will be dedicated to retail, and a hotel will straddle the next five levels. Apartments will average 2,534 square feet and will occupy floors 11 through 50. As currently planned, it will not reach the coveted supertall status that has become a hallmark of the Midtown street since the completion of One57, but it will still be high enough to provide good views of the Empire State Building, Rockefeller Center, and 53 West 53rd Street.

The site sits on 57th Street, aka Billionaires’ Row, between Fifth Avenue and Sixth Avenue. Access to the F train is half an avenue to the west while the N, R, and W trains are three streets to the north by the Plaza Hotel and the Apple Store.

A completion date for 10-14 West 57th Street has not been announced yet.

Demolition For Future 52-Story Skyscraper At 10-14 West 57th Street Moving Quickly, In Midtown

Quote:
Demolition on one of several buildings at 10-14 West 57th Street has been completed. The remaining neighboring structures sit empty and will soon come down to make way for a 52-story mixed-use skyscraper designed by Skidmore Owings & Merrill. James Patterson of Ancora Engineering is the applicant of record. Sheldon Solow, chairman of Solow Realty & Development Group, is the developer for the site and Anthony Calicchio is listed as the owner behind the applications. The new 672-foot-tall, 383,000-square-foot skyscraper will contain 80 residential units spread across 202,738 square feet of space.

New photos show one of the low-rise buildings already fully demolished, while the adjacent structures have been emptied out.

The new building’s first four floors will be dedicated to retail, and a hotel will straddle the next five levels. Apartments will average 2,534 square feet and will occupy floors 11 through 50. To date, no renderings for the new SOM-designed skyscraper have been released. The ground-up residence may not be a supertall like its record-breaking neighbors on Billionaires’ Row, but it will still make a mark on the skyline above Central Park South. The roof of 10-14 West 57th Street will only be 17 feet shorter than the Solow Building, and have north-facing views of Central Park and Midtown in all other directions.

A start and completion date for the construction of 10-14 West 57th street has not been announced.

Sheldon Solow, don't let us down. This better be a supertall, or will be lost in the Midtown skyline.

This is really a shi**y development.

The buildings razed were nice. They contributed to whatever touch of class 57th Street still has, gave it some actual pedigree and heritage as opposed to yet another awkward glass wall.

What Solow did on the other side of the street, next to his asinine 9W57 building, is criminal. He knocked down great heritage buildings for ill-fitting pizza-box architecture.

The smart money says this is equally pointless: a cheaply built glass/pre-fab mid-rise, or maybe it'll just be vacant for decades before the old gizzard croaks, like what he's doing to 5 or so blocks on the East River (thanks, Shelly! you're a real hero for New York's kids).

Demolition Progressing For Solow’s 52-Story Skyscraper At 10-20 West 57th Street, In Midtown

Quote:
Demolition has been gradually progressing at 10-20 West 57th Street in Midtown, the site of a proposed 52-story skyscraper from Skidmore Owings & Merrill and Solow Realty & Development Group. Located on Billionaires’ Row between Fifth Avenue and Sixth Avenue, the new development will rise 672 feet and contain 383,000 square feet, according to permits filed in February of 2019. The majority of the structure would be devoted to residential space, with 202,738 feet spread across 80 units.

Recent photos from Tectonic show that 20 West 57th Street, the westernmost structure on the plot, has been completely cleared since YIMBY’s last visit in November, when the building was still largely intact. This was the second portion of the property to be torn down, leaving only two structures on the eastern end of the lot to be razed. So far, no signs of demolition preparations are apparent on these edifices. They stand directly adjacent to the Crown Building, aka 730 Fifth Avenue, which is undergoing a partial hotel and residential conversion.

Details regarding the overall architecture and interiors of 10-20 West 57th Street have yet to be revealed, nor has any kind of rendering of the future skyscraper been released. The architectural height of 672 feet would be just 17 feet short of Solow’s eponymous 49-story building, which is just down the street to the east at 9 West 57th Street. Though considerably short of the supertall status enjoyed by neighboring towers on the street, the building will still make an impression on the skyline below Central Park and provide tenants with great views. The residences are planned to start on the 11th floor and culinate on the 50th floor.

The nearest subway is the F train, half an avenue to the west at the 57 Street Station. The N, R, and W trains are three blocks to the north by the Plaza Hotel.

No targeted completion date for 10-14 West 57th Street has been announced, but it will almost certainly be several years away.

Gee.

9 West 57th without the white corners, the street-level slope and the ornamental side bracings.

How imaginative. How far beyond the curve he has gone this time......
