Driving in to work this morning along Memorial and it appears that they took one of the cranes down at Foothills Hospital. As far as I could see there are only 2 there now. Earlier this week there were definately 3.

^I wondered when those would start coming down. I expect the ones at Peter Lougheed are just about done as well.

Can anyone confirm, or are you quite sure Lubicon?

By the looks of things, might hit 56 cranes by Tuesday.

^No one on the SSP boards seems to know for sure, and there has been some discussion on the record. A forumer once said it was 64 during the previous building boom in the early 80s, but no one confirmed this and that poster doesn't post much anymore.

Anyway, I started keeping note of the record on my list at the start of the thread, based on the criteria that they must be tower cranes with a stationary base, used for construction, and of a reasonable size. That record is 55 and is the current number. Well, unless that Foothills Hospital crane actually came down.

Probably no more this weekend, there isn't a base at either Germain or Centennial that I could see. I will check Foothills on my way home, just had to stop in at the Uni on my way to my car.

for the past 2 days crane parts have been leaving the manchester industrial again. I'm wondering where they are headed because I can't recall any bases going up recently, nor any crane activity in the past two days. Perhaps they're sitting on a site somewhere?

I can tell you they were red parts! haha

I was at the Epcor Centre this evening and was greeted with a wonderous site as I exited the SE doors - 9 CRANES IN VIEW (Vetro, 3 Keynote, Union Square, Colors ?, Palliser Square, HH, & Bankers Court). And to think that Arriva 42, Nuera, & Le Germain are on the way - Great times indeed - we might hit 64 yet.

We'll we're at 56 now, with 2 bases in the ground. Germain will be soon now, since the rebar covering the floor on the one half the pit is now in. Bow will probably have another one or two within the next month is my feeling (probably soon after, or just before, the big pour). We may lose a few though, the Peter Lougheed cranes and Vetro won't be up much longer.

^Yep. I think that it will hover around around that 59, 60, 61 mark for a bit. By the time 8th Avenue Place and Digital Library(?) get their cranes, the likes of Nova, Foothills Hospital, and Copperwood will likely be down or close to coming down. Might take another larger project to start up, or a couple projects to go ahead on second towers (Nuera, Stampede Station, Union Square) to get up and over the supposed "record."

60 . . . 60 . . .60 . . . come on, I know we can do it!
If we can't reach 60 storeys lets reach 60 cranes at least.

NOte that Germain will have at least 2 cranes because it is technically 2 buildings plus a third one on top. But definetly two different building cores and spaces so therefore two cranes.

Some will be coming down I agree but I think we should still remain up in the high 50s for a while. I would say at best, 60-61. It kinda feels like we are in a lull struggling to get that count to push up.

Interesting theory ... I've seen dozens of twin towers erected using one crane positioned in between or in behind.
