Not to mention that this development is eliminating the existing on site City Parking which the City leased from BAYKING motors going way back. Also eliminated is the surface lot recently sold on Hunter and Catharine. More surface lots downtown are to be sold in the future, so parking garages will have to be built. In my opinion it is a smarter use of land to build parking garages which can house the same amount of cars as say 5 surface lots. Time to get rid of the massive surface parking lot blocks we have, this site included.
People must not be using their spots then, because I live downtown and not only would I never pay for parking, but if I did there is always room at nearly every parking lot. John and Rebecca is a parking lot desert and other areas have soooo much parking available.

If there's a six month waiting list, parking prices should be raised.

Whenever I drive downtown, which is not often, I never have a problem finding parking. I know the York parkade is undergoing some renovations but the top level is not even open as an option. I'm sure Mac has done their research and I get around by cycling but the King st frontage as retail only makes sense. That side of King st is a disaster for pedestrians. Now is the time for transformation.

City has raised the monthly prices twice in the past 3 years. Probably more to come. Waiting list has just gotten longer despite the price increases. Impark has also raised rates.

I think that Hamilton downtown parking prices like real estate prices were artificially low for a really long time.

No render updates in this story, but news nonetheless:

The city has also received a formal consultation application for McMaster's proposed off-campus graduate residence, which would house 600 students on the southwest corner of Bay Street South and King Street West where there is currently a parking lot.

30 storeys now. Diamond Schmitt.. looks really good. Looks like they have the whole frontage on King from Bay to Caroline now to me, though I'm not certain on that.

Much, much better especially if it's an entire frontage along King.

I'm not too thrilled about the parking being on the corner though as I feel it will look too low compared to all the big buildings around it.. would have liked to see a tower on top of the parking lot like that other render showed..

Also the pink yellow and magenta are very late 80s early 90s lol.. I doubt this will be the final render.

The poor brick building beside it is pretty much gonna be in eternal shadow lol..

The parking isn't in the corner though.

It's hard to tell from the render - does the parking stop before the lot on george st that was just built that they just paved? Cuz if so I am totally fine with that, esp. if that green glass building with the pointy peak is still going to be built on the corner..

I'm just going to say it. I hate the new design. The old one was much better.

Also I think the virtual camera is at a different angle.

Agreed. The old one was pretty 'generic modern tower' looking but we don't have much of that here and it just looked good to my eye. I think the new one is very bland and that colour will not turn out well.

(Also the tabletop skyline continues to develop. Sigh.)

I guess its a matter of opinion. I prefer the new tower over the old one. Can't satisfy everyone.

Also I don't think the parking structure is at the corner of King and Caroline. Vranich hasn't sold that corner lot, probably just the angle of the pics playing games.

The new one is closer to what I want to see assuming the materials are nice.

I would need a better render - this one looks like it came right outta autocad - it could possibly look nice with the right finishes.. but I still like the initial design better.

However this looks pretty generic so I wouldn't be surprised to see the design change yet again before being built.
