Agreed, the Cultural Trust "knows" theaters, not residential development.

So 2014 is my tenth year on SSP and also I recently hit 10,000 posts if anyone wants to congratulate me. I accept bitcoin gifts for my legacy and contributions to this forum.

But seriously though, a brief moment of reflection. This thread is hands down the best Pittsburgh discussion thread that I have found on the internet. Cheers to more positive and constructive discussion.

So those are some of the developments that I had been missing on page 1. Please let me know if these look right or if I'm missing any other major projects or if these are no longer moving forward. I think the Iron City Brewery plan fell apart.

I include suburban architecture when I find it interesting, sorry. Southpointe in general is interesting to me. It is the epicenter of the oil & gas boom that the area is having.

Month-old article but new to me--more documentation showing that educated Millenials are moving into cities, and Pittsburgh is one of the prime examples, along with Philly, Boston, Baltimore, and St Louis. Detroit and Cleveland, though, not so much:

Congratulations. It appears you and Glowrock are two of our most senior contributors. Hopefully both of you continue to enrich us with your commentary and contributions for another decade.

But haven't you heard that Bitcoin isn't a thing anymore?

Cliffs Notes for the last year and a half?

I can't believe I've missed 6000 posts in this thread alone.

Wow... I love this building... any story behind it?

Edit: In fact, I think you have the ISDA building at the corner of Forbes and Wood in red. Once the orange siding was taken off, it turned out that building was a gem.
It was not a perfect job. I don't regularly walk every square foot of downtown regularly, so in some cases I had to rely on the (now several year old) Google Street View.

Dunno. The old Pittsburgh maps show it dates back to at least the 1870s. First Side has some of the oldest surviving buildings downtown, so it could be even older than that.

Interestingly, by the 1957 overhead shots, all the other buildings on that side of the block were already demolished. So it's been sitting by its lonesome for some time. Also, the 1910 map shows it having three or four stories, which suggests either there was a typo, or the top floors of the building were cut off for some odd reason at some point. Maybe it used to have a mansard?

Nice. Yet another illustration of how Pittsburgh has very little in common with its withering neighbor to the northwest.

Indeed. Also a good illustration of how much the future prosperity of the state of Pennsylvania depends on Pittsburgh and Philadelphia. Together they are only around 14.4% of the state's population, but they contained 22.5% of the state's college-educated 25-34 year-olds, and 47.9%(!) of the state's growth in that category. Expand that out to their entire urbanized areas and I am sure it would be even more striking.

About the most you can say for Cleveland, in contrast, is that it isn't dragging down Ohio to the same degree as Detroit is dragging down Michigan. But it definitely isn't helping Ohio in the way Pittsburgh and Philadelphia are helping Pennsylvania.
