Arlington Trails development starts with new hotel, self-storage
By Tom Bailey/ The Daily Memphian

Quote:
Construction will soon start on Arlington’s first hotel, a $14 million, 110-guestroom Fairfield Inn & Suites. The hotel, as well as a $4 million Sentry Self Storage facility, will be the first two construction projects to anchor the new Arlington Trails Planned Development on the southwest corner of I-40 and Airline Road... If the Fairfield succeeds, Grant plans to build nearby a second hotel, likely a SpringHill Suites.

Latest plan for The Clipper excludes hotel
By Tom Bailey/ The Daily Memphian

Quote:
Developers of The Clipper have mothballed plans, at least for now, for a second tower that would be a hotel. New York-based Somera Road Inc. with local partner Orgel Family LP issued a press release Friday stating the developers are seeking tenants for the 300,000-square-foot office tower. Those nine stories would be floors 11-19 of a tower that has parking on floors 2-10 and retail and limited parking on the ground level.

Belz Enterprises and Fairwood Capital had considered building a 200-room hotel at the corner of Main and Beale, about three blocks from The Clipper property, Pinkowski said. The Main and Beale property is where Tri-State Bank headquarters was bought and demolished. But last summer Belz sought and received permission to build a surface parking lot instead of a hotel, stating it would wait for the market to improve for a high-end, mixed-use project.

Kane says two new convention center hotels a possibility
By Bill Dries/ The Daily Memphian

Quote:
The head of Memphis Tourism says Memphis could get two new convention center hotels Downtown despite several court fights over the city’s plan for a single Loews Hotel on the Main Street Mall. “It would be fine with me if Loews built 550 rooms, and 100 North Main built 400 rooms or 450,” Memphis Tourism president and CEO Kevin Kane said on the WKNO Channel 10 program “Behind The Headlines,” which airs July 21. Townhouse Management has said it has a plan to redevelop 100 North Main, the city's tallest building, as a hotel. “I think (two new hotels) certainly is in the realm of possibility," Kane said. "I think eventually you will see the Sheraton hotel – those owners will invest and make their hotel even nicer and more competitive.”

Hoping the Clipper breaks ground soon, and eventually have a hotel component as originally planned.

Also as far as Olive Branch's new development, I'm shocked to hear the lack of apartment development in Desoto county. Before Silos Sqaure construction recently, almost no development in years for apartments in Desoto. As fast growing as Desto County is, you'll think something like the Olive Branch project would mix-use with apartments/rentals.

Memphis' hotel pipeline is bursting: The economics behind the boom
By Jacob Steimer – Staff Reporter, Memphis Business Journal

Quote:
Enough projects have either been announced or are underway to add 5,800 rooms in a city that has 23,000 rooms currently, according to hospitality consulting firm Pinkowski & Co... Only expects about half of those rooms to be built, the impact of 2,900 rooms - more than 10 percent of the city's current capacity - could be significant.... Pinkowski sees mostly positive effects from the ongoing wave: Along with the additional tax revenue, the projects will make the local hotel market more robust. And, especially with the $200 million worth of improvements being made to the city's convention center, he expects demand to eventually catch up to the new supply.

Restaurateur buys old Ambassador Hotel as new home for South of Beale
By Susan Ellis – Staff Reporter, Memphis Business Journal

Quote:
Cabigao plans to move South of Beale into the bottom floor of the Ambassador and convert the upper floors into apartments. He said the reason behind the move was two-fold: He's interested in acquiring property, and he needed the extra space for South of Beale, which has outgrown its current space at 361 S. Main St... The transaction also includes the 361 S. Main property, and he wants to find the right tenant to replace his own restaurant.

Dream Hotel Group plans boutique on South Main

Quote:
A real estate developer who is hot on South Main has partnered with a high-end boutique hotel group out of New York.

In partnership with real estate developer Tom Intrator, the boutique Dream Hotel would open at 122 S. Main St., the current Royal Furniture building.

The hotel is set to include 178 rooms and four dining and nightlife venues, including a signature restaurant, lobby lounge, coffee shop, and rooftop bar.

"[Our] frontrunner [plan] has been to develop the existing structure to a very, very high-end [restaurant, and] go vertical over it, probably with a hotel," developer Tom Intrator told MBJ in January.

Former Memphis Firestone property pulled from tax sale amid legal questions
Desiree Stennett, Memphis Commercial Appeal

Quote:
The former Firestone plant expected to appear in Tuesday's tax sale won't be sold until at least October, the Shelby County Trustee's Office confirmed Monday evening. The property was pulled because the Blight Authority of Memphis filed a notice last week indicating that it intended to enter a minimum bid on the property, triggering a debate over the constitutionality of the sale and prompting a judge to remove the listing.

Union and Fourth hotel approved by council with parking in back, hotel on corner
By Bill Dries/ The Daily Memphian

Quote:
...the lot in front of the six-story, 130-room hotel would have been temporary or “a place holder” until developers of the nearby $1 billion Union Row development came through with a parking garage Patel’s hotel would use. The front lot of 90 parking spaces would then have become some kind of mixed use development in addition to the hotel.
