Both the east and west side (from Mopac) are great views. We still have work to do from the north and south sides.

And that is an excellent night time photo!

If you moved to the south from that view, would the Capitol (blocked by awful Westgate) and Frost (10 more stories please) come into view?

The Capitol would, but you'd have to swing more to the southeast to be able to see the Frost Bank Tower.

fast forward to 2023, or whenever 6x is complete.

What area of town has the best vantage point to produce the most expansive skyline pic....basically exposing the highest number of buildings?

I really think the views from the west show the greatest number of high rises being that your vantage point is higher - so nothing else impedes the view between you and downtown. Even if you end up being higher than some of the shorter buildings downtown then, you'd still see them in the skyline. Views in North and South Austin are more limited to the taller buildings. The same is true for East Austin. Of course, there are some high spots in South and East Austin where you can see more of the skyline. I'm less familiar with good vantage points in North Austin, though, there are some good ones up on Mopac near 183.

A friend of mine asked me to take some pictures of downtown. Here is a sample. I don't have an artistic bone in my body but I do enjoy my flying camera.

In case anyone is wondering, this is where I was to get these pictures...south of Riverside, and the height topped out around 950 feet.

Great views of downtown. That east side is just a long sliver. I wonder if it will ever expand past that. And on the west side you see this huge crescent digging into the side of downtown. Downtown looks dense from Riverside.

Great photos! As much as the traffic in Austin is a pain, I love the fact that downtown isn't surrounded by freeways. Also, we really live in a beautiful place - largely because of that.

On the east side, I don't know how much it will be able to spread north-south due to the neighborhoods. Others are likely more informed than me, but I would love to see density developed on smaller plots on the east side, not large plots with less diversity. I think this can be done while largely maintaining existing neighborhoods, but if coding allows more changes, it will also result in further gentrification. This isn't the thread to discuss all of this, but I've often wondered how the east side will continue to develop also, and these photos make me think more on that.

I agree this isnt the thread for the discussion. Just observations I made with the photos.

I think those photos, which are fabulous btw, are an excellent opportunity to open up discussions due to the fact that the overhead shots gives us a lay of the land and an idea of where construction can go from here. When I look at the first picture, to me it looks like the density of tall buildings can't go too much further northward. Aside from the addition of 6X, and perhaps a half dozen or so other tall buildings in the mix, the shape and scope of downtown's tallest buildings is pretty much set. Again, from the photos, it doesn't look like downtown's major skyscrapers can spread much further north so we can pretty much see the permanent defining shape of downtown.
I'm not sure why anyone would think the photo thread should be void of discussion, otherwise all the responses would just be oohs, and aahs.

The photos are awesome. Do you have larger versions of them?
