The Queen of the Adriatic

Venice

Another shorty. I think the Rome thread will be longer.

This was a huge plate. Biggest calzone I've ever seen.

As I mentioned above, Rome is next, followed by Milan.

Wicked photos! So much urbane beauty. It literally looks like a step back in history, truly amazing. It's amazing people live in a city such as this, although I love the idea of no cars, I'm sure the boats are just as bad.

Boats pollute far more than cars, but obviously Venetians don't sit in boat traffic jams all day.

Oh, and thanks.

There's never such thing as too much Venice. However, there is such a thing as too many tourists in Venice...

Agreed with Hellachans, too many tourists. People don't really "live" in Venice. Tourists and foreign buyers of 2nd homes have driven prices up to the point where most Venetians have fled to the suburbs. There isn't much of a functioning city here so much as it is a tourist center.

But it is nonetheless a beautiful city, a victim of its own beauty.

I am in Venice RIGHT NOW! This place is absolutely extraordinary. I was, and remain, unprepared for its greatness.

It truly is a masterpiece of human civilization. The city is magical.

Great photos!

Thanks.

Have fun there, you can probably see the entire island in a day or two.

My brother was there earlier this year, brought me back some nice souvenirs.
The city is in big trouble though, in more ways than one...

Thanks for these pics!
