My family visited Marineland back in the early 1970s. (after much begging, my father took me up in the revolving tower even though the fog was thick as pea soup) We didn't see a thing..but I loved it anyway.

Anyhoo...The eBay slide, shown below, shows a rather impressive Marineland Restaurant. [c.1963]

eBay

I had no idea there was a Marineland Restaurant. (of course there's the possibility it was shrouded in fog the day I was there)

Does anyone who visited Marineland remember eating at this restaurant?

Here's a closer look at the place.

DETAIL

Impressive looking place. Maybe it was located some distance from the park's main attractions ...say, off to one side.

.

A friend of mine visiting Los Angeles (I believe it was 1986) took this photo of me driving around pointing out the various sights.

ethereal_reality personal collection

I've often wondered where we were when she snapped this photo.

There's only one, rather shitty, clue. The building on the corner has a rounded facade.

Go minions!

FYI:...I don't think I was actually pointing at anything specific in the photo.
If I remember correctly, she was making fun of me for pointing at virtually everything we passed...so I posed with a fake point.

Maybe...another clue. That building seems to have sort of a painted banner of numbers on it. The one on the right looks like 99. (99 cents store?) The other one is partially obscured by the lamp post, is it also 99? Or maybe it's counting up like 98 - 99...

...for what it's worth.

The restaurant ad is reportedly from 1968, so the prices might have changed . . . slightly.

I'm going to say that's the (now former) 99 Cents store at the NE corner of La Tijera and Knowlton. Could you have
been on your way to LAX, e_r? The two-light signal next to your index finger is still there today.

Palm trees are like weeds. They grow ridiculously tall and eventually need to be felled.

Never been to that restaurant [but I did visit Marineland one time]. Photos of the interior seem to say they featured large groups of people. You can see the place in the photo above....at the upper right.
LA has a long history of nature attractions. Remember the alligators, lions, monkeys, ostriches, deers, wild African animals....oy vey.

i think i posted the picture below a few years ago. Its my aunts and dad at either Marineland or Long Beach, its dated 1957(the hills in the background look like PV). I tried looking for the building in the background and a fish tank but no luck. At this time my grandparents were divorced, and my grandfather was a doctor, so he didn't really take the kids out of the area for the weekends he had them. The best part about this pic, Dad was a singer and got to do a Marineworld national commercial in the mid 80's and yours truly got to go to Marineworld (I dont know when they changed from land to world) around 85/86 and got his caricature drawn.

I always wonder what's listed to eat on the Marineland restaurant menu. The 1960 Menu features lots of fish and other seafood. Link2:

Marineland closed in 1987. The Park was located on very valuable real estate. A Marine entertainment venue was not good land use.

This Love's address is definitely 15758 Ventura Blvd.:

Noted that "back of photo is stamped 1951."

Here's the problem, the location in the picture is definately in the 16000 block of Venture due to the location of the IB(Independence Bank) building and the building to the left. Could Love's have moved from the 15758 location? 15758 is east of the IB building.

I found this slide (in a group of slides) from 1966 that I believe was taken by a tourist going up in the Marineland Sky Tower.

I think this might be the Marineland Restaurant.

EBAY - found several years ago

As a reminder, here is the slide of the Marineland Restaurant that I posted a few days ago.

I'm pretty sure this is the same place.

Is it just me, or does it seems strange to eat seafood at an aquarium?
