Lots of live music in the village but it's online now:

Live music really isn't happening in the village but that just goes with the changing scene in that area. It's condoland now and honestly that's okay, because the culture just shifts to other areas, it doesn't disappear.
Interesting theory. Where is it now? Can it ever be squeezed out entirely? I'm not convinced there isn't less of it today regardless of geography.

Not sure I agree with that logic. A lively neighbourhood with local bands playing every night doesn't just pop up overnight. It takes time to grow and develop.

Let's say you're 18 years old and play in a local band in Winnipeg. If Osborne Village is full of cool venues you might keep playing in that band, and if you work hard enough, one day your band might get famous. Or even if that doesn't happen, you might decide to open your own music venue one day.

But it's a lot harder to reach that point — being a successful local band, or opening your own venue — if you don't see others leading the way. That's why cities like Nashville or Austin get known around the world for their music scenes. They have a reputation as a place where musicians can "make it".

Was Winnipeg ever one of those cities? I don't know. But I do know that if Winnipeg loses the soul of its live music neighbourhood, there's no guarantee it will resurface again. Local bands will just migrate to another city, or give up on that dream altogether.

Winnipeg was one of the top punk cities in the 80s and 90’s. When punk bands toured it would not be far behind Seattle in terms of major stops.

The Handsome Daughter and the Goodwill both have bands and events all the time and they are just down the street from each other.

Both of those are relatively "new" when compared to places like the Cavern and The Zoo.

The Cavern immediately reopened as The Underground. The new Toad is also going to be a music venue. You also have places like Upstairs which although may not be everyone's cup of tea, is packed when they have DJ nights.

Owners were working on a deal to take over the entire old Toad space and parts of the second floor as well, so if they were thinking that big I doubt this will have a big affect on it.

The new development on Osborne got me thinking of this one again. Are there any updates on this site? Is there any progress or is it stalled?

I don't get out to the village anymore with Covid and working from home so the last time I saw it they had just finished tearing everything down.

There is marketing and branded fencing for the project up, but I haven't seen any progress.
