I do like how they also break up the fairly same level Mission Bay skyline.

Yes absolutely. I think it was mentioned by someone else earlier in this thread but it also extends the city quite a bit visually when looking down 3rd street.

I'd love to see clusters of buildings of this quality and height pop up all over the city!

A nice view of the new cluster from Oracle via SF Yimby.

Ahhh, how I miss home. Can't wait to see this in person when I'm back in the Bay. We should be getting some good aerials for when the Warriors are in the WCF!

Construction Starts For China Basin Park, Facade Rising On Block B In Mission Rock, San Francisco

BY: ANDREW NELSON 5:30 AM ON JUNE 3, 2022

Mission Rock Partners has officially launched construction for the China Basin Park with a groundbreaking ceremony on San Francisco’s Mission Bay waterfront. The park is one of Mission Rock’s most highly anticipated public assets, five acres of waterfront open space shaped by community input and designed by SCAPE Landscape Architecture. Mission Rock Partners is a joint venture with the Giants, the Port of San Francisco, and Tishman Speyer.

The China Basin Park will be a gateway connecting the Lefty O’Doul Bridge with the dense emerging neighborhood. It is designed to become a neighborhood park that attracts a regional audience. The overall programming is described as unique in each of the cardinal directions.

The west portion of the park features an entry plaza, connecting the dense urban fabric with the outdoor space. A raised grove will be planted to mitigate the wind and create an opportunity for a tranquil gathering place. The southern end will have an attractive promenade connecting the park with Mission Rock’s retail hub. Visitors will find shops, restaurants, and cafes around the residential and office buildings.

The eastern edge of Mission Rock will provide a sweeping lawn extending towards the water with dramatic views of the Bay Bridge. The north of the park will border McCovey Cove, cultivating area to interact with the water, either for play or to launch a personal watercraft. The heart of the park will be the plaza, producing a generously sized public gathering space featuring a small restaurant for casual dining.

Looks like the facade for Parcel F (which recently broke ground) has shifted to a green tone from black/gray:

Wow, definitely a welcome change. The green terracotta bricks look gorgeous and remind me a little bit of this recent project from Roman & Williams in NY: http://www.romanandwilliams.com/proj...s#/new-page-4/

This project feels pretty distinct amongst a lot of newer urban developments in that there isn't a single building that's just a glass box. The variety of materials and textures really helps all of these buildings feel contemporary but also at home. I don't know anything about the costs of construction materials, but to my eyes this project looks like it's been glammed up a bit rather than being value engineered.

I agree. That’s a gorgeous shade of green and nice high quality material as well.

Green is fine but I liked the gray better. It also seems to have become less shapely.

yeah, I liked the rendering of the previous version better, too. we'll have to see what this looks like in real life. not sure it is my favorite of the four any longer.

did we also lose the top level? (edit: oh, looking again, maybe it's just not as visible in the new angles)

on the other hand, the cladding for the SW-most building (the short one) looks really solid in the recent pics. I'll have to wander over and check it out.

Love this development. Mission Rock gives some heft and gravitas to the Mission Bay area, and the architecture and materials are varied but first rate. So glad it's not a Vancouver style cluster of forgetable glass towers. There are still some large surface lots near MR that will be developed in the future, no? It's exciting to see a new neighborhood built from scratch in a city that desperately needs new housing.

Yup, all the surface lots will be developed as part of Phases 2-4.

Agreed with everyone above, timbad is the best! Thanks for the updates. The shots from across the channel give me a euro-vibe. A little Amsterdamish, perhaps.
