Why is this the only building in town that seems to use vast quantities of orange netting this way? Are they just way behind on the cladding?

The cladding/façade. Some of these towers, the core/skeleton rises faster without progression on the cladding to match the speed. Compared to say a 9 Dekalb style construction schedule where the core/skeleton rises and the cladding started relatedly soon.

YIMBY is kicking off its annual countdown of the 31 tallest buildings being built in New York City, starting with 606 West 30th Street, a 545-foot-tall residential skyscraper in Hudson Yards that recently resumed construction after a period of inactivity.
Designed by Ismael Leyva Architects and developed by Lalezarian Properties, the 42-story mixed-use skyscraper will yield a total 312,350 square feet, of which 192,780 will be dedicated to residential space and 14,240 for commercial use.
The Midtown, Manhattan property is located between Eleventh Avenue and West Street, near the border with West Chelsea. 606 West 30th Street is also known as Tower B in a two-tower development along with the adjacent 601 West 29th Street, an already topped-out 695-foot-tall skyscraper by FXCollaborative for Douglaston Development.

Photographs by @mchalnglo793 showed construction above street level as workers are busily assembling the metal scaffolding holding up floor slabs, installing new steel rebar for the inner core walls and perimeter columns, and building formwork for more imminent concrete pouring.

The overall daytime and nighttime exterior renderings below depict a uniform building massing uniformly clad in a floor-to-ceiling glass curtain wall interspersed every few levels by horizontal white strips.
In the center of the main northern elevation is a rectangular cutout facing the rail yards and Related Companies’ first phase of Hudson Yards.
Behind the upper punched-out sections of the envelope is what appears to be a tall green wall.
It also seems like this midsection of 606 West 30th Street will house the residential amenities, which include an indoor swimming pool and lounging areas flanking the central green space.
This part of the tower also features tall ceiling heights and wraparound views of the surrounding neighborhood and the Hudson River.

A revised completion date for 606 West 30th Street has not been announced, though YIMBY predicts sometime in 2023.

Douglaston Begins Leasing Manhattan High-Rise

Quote:
Douglaston Development has commenced the leasing of 3Eleven, a 60-story, 938-unit mixed-income rental community located at 601 W. 29th St., in Manhattan’s Chelsea district. The firm developed the $600 million project alongside Ares Management Corp. The building’s construction was subject to a $415 million loan, according to Yardi Matrix data.

The opening of 3Eleven marks Douglaston’s second New York City project completion this year, following its topping out of a 188-unit affordable senior housing community in the Bronx, which is expected to be ready for use in 2023.

Construction of 3Eleven began in 2019 and finished in 2021, and is the largest multifamily project in Manhattan, according to a 2022 Yardi Matrix report. It includes 703 market rate apartments, as well as 235 affordable units. A mix of studio, one- and two-bedroom units are available for lease, with move-ins scheduled to begin in the fall. The building includes 60,00 square feet of amenity spaces, including lounges, co-working offices, a fitness center, a pool and roof decks.

Additionally, the building includes 15,000 square feet of retail space, serving both the building’s residents and the larger Chelsea and Hudson Yards communities. Its location in Manhattan’s West Chelsea neighborhood gives it quick access to many nearby sites including The High Line and Hudson River Greenway, in addition to many more restaurants, shops and cultural attractions.

Leasing Launches For 3Eleven At 311 Eleventh Avenue In West Chelsea, Manhattan

Quote:
Douglaston Development has launched leasing at 3Eleven, a 60-story residential skyscraper at 311 Eleventh Avenue at the convergence of West Chelsea and Hudson Yards. Designed by FXCollaborative, the 695-foot-tall structure yields 938 units with 703 market-rate rentals and 235 homes reserved for affordable housing. Move-ins are expected to commence this fall.

Available homes range from studios up to two-bedroom floor plans. This includes affordable housing units. Each apartment features wide-plank flooring, designer appliances and fixtures, and solar shades installed in every window.

The building also offers over 60,000 square feet of tenant amenities. This includes multiple resident lounges, co-working spaces, a fitness center with adjacent studios, an outdoor pool, multiple roof decks, a children’s playroom, music studios, indoor and outdoor dog runs, and an on-site parking garage with bike storage.

Residents will also have access to Throw Me A Bone, a full-service pet care business offering veterinary, grooming, walking, and boarding services.

“Creating 3Eleven has been a true labor of love, from inception years ago to its fruition today,” said Steven Charno, president of Douglaston Development. “We overcame countless challenges along the way, including initial site rezoning and even a global pandemic, but each milestone reached exemplifies the grit and triumph of our team. We are fortunate to have worked alongside extraordinary partners, including the Ares Management Real Estate team and architect FXCollaborative to bring this project to life.”
