Whatever the state does, they should sell the land on the condition that something specific be built on the property, approved by the state first, and ensure that the developer has the money to complete it.

I like the 115 floor design. Will add more uniqueness to the city skyline

So you think the state government is inept and terrible and shouldn't make decisions and then proceed to suggest that the same government make specific demands on what the private sector should do with the land. The cognitive dissonance here is outstanding.

If this is about maximizing revenue, then the state should put it up for bid and back out. Let the developers make as many choices as possible. My only recommendation would be a demand that any development maintain or possibly improve access to public transit. Let's not forget that TC sits is connected to the Blue, Brown, Green, Orange, and Pink lines.

In a move to curry favour with detractors and political opponents, Illinois Republicans and Governor Bruce Rauner have presented a conceptual rendering of a 1,700-foot mixed-use supertall, illustrating the enormous potential of the site.

Construction Imminent for 1101 S Wabash in Downtown Chicago

Following the demolition of a former two-storey parking garage and clearing of the site, 1101 S Wabash is set to begin construction. The 30-storey 281-key hotel is set to occupy the prime downtown location when it opens in late 2018. Located just south of the Chicago Loop, and within easy walking distance to the waterfront, the future Homewood Hilton Hotel will take up 196 rooms within the tower, while the rest will consist of long-term rooms. This is part of a recent local trend that has seen an uptick in hospitality-based development projects over the last few years.

This Saturday I went for my first long walk in months, and bKL's Exhibit looked much nicer, and much less beige, than it had this summer/fall. Any thoughts as to how that happened?

Standard Oil plans new tower in Illinois Central development

Sources have told skyrisecities.com that Standard Oil (Indiana) is looking closely at a new 80-story office building that would be the tallest building in Chicago, topping even the recently completed John Hancock Center. Edward Durell Stone is said to be designing the new monolith, with assistance from Chicago's Perkins & Will.

I'd recommend against that, considering Chicago's harsh winters. A Mount Airy white granite panel would be much more suitable.

No way this thing happens. How are you gonna draw tenants to a tower with those slits for windows? And good luck getting the financing to build it on spec. Write this one off as a blatant attempt at height-mongering.

Winter light is always bluer, that's why winter "looks" cold as well as feels cold.

I took an image someone posted on the 1000 S Michigan page from Jahn's site and added 1 Grant Park (mostly hidden), Essex and Vista (obscures Hancock). Still a lot of infill to go if the South Loop has any hope of achieving the visual density of the Loop.
