Although it doesn't have much of a Los Angeles connection (that I could find) it's an amazing story.

You can read about it Here.

or here.

"In 1974, Carmichael, based out of Burbank, California, ...." this is a quote from one of ER's links.

The car making "plant" was in Burbank which was certainly in LA County. I would say that the DALE was smokin and steamin the Los Angeles vibe all the way.

Here's another LA associated whoop-dee-doo......Disney Studio, 500 S Buena Vista St, Burbank, CA 91521.

Rather than a smokestack/top hat I think this thing is supposed to represent a lighthouse....and the promotion was for the Canadian group of that name,
who moved over to the Polydor label and released an album in '73....from Wiki....

"Lighthouse is a Canadian rock band formed in 1968 in Toronto, Ontario, whose repertoire included elements of rock music, jazz, classical music, and swing and featured horns, string instruments, and vibraphone. They won Juno Awards for Best Canadian Group of the Year in 1972, 1973,[2] and 1974."

The bands biggest U.S. hit was 1971's "One Fine Morning", which peaked at Billboard #24....

Good eye, riichkay.

Here's another.

Can anyone figure out the promotional-thingy in this slide dated 1973 (without looking up the answer) ..Don't cheat!

from Alison Martino's slide collection.

Here's a closer look.

If you ask me it's a most unlikely sight.

Good luck minions!

My first thought was "Fiddler on the Roof."
(But the movie was out in 1971.)

And you would be CORRECT, Martin Pal....Good job!

vintagelosangeles

Allison says the Fiddler on the Roof Soundtrack was on the charts for 90 weeks! .If that's the case, the fiddler dude might have been up on the roof for quite some time.
That might explain the discrepancy between 1971 and 1973.

A fiddler on the roof. Sounds crazy, no?

Does 90 weeks make it a tradition?

I bet the "fuzz" were always checking that place out. Looking for grass in hidden nooks and crannies. The Sunset Strip has become a sad place far removed from its mid 1960s to mid 1970s glory years when it was the L.A. epicenter of the counterculture and music scene. A long slow decline. Westwood had an even more precipitous fall. It was the place to go on weekends after the Strip declined until the late 1980s, when gang violence killed a lady bystander and it all ended. I went to UCLA in the late 1970s,/early 1980s and Westwood boomed. Could hardly get through the crowds on Saturday night.

Here's an interesting original (not a reprint) photograph currently on eBay

"19TEENS LOS ANGELES EXAMINER NEWSPAPER OFFICE NEWSBOY HEADLINES WWI POSTER"

eBay

Of course this could be in anywhere in Los Angeles County.

update:

I just noticed this.

detail

Unless I'm mistaken, "City Property" is painted on the window.

& there's another word below. . .something OGRAPHER (it doesn't appear to be "photographer") It might be Stenographer but why would a place like this need a stenographer?

That day's headline.

Re: "Although it doesn't have much of a Los Angeles connection"

The Dale was designed, built, and sold in Los Angeles. One of the three remaining cars is in the Petersen Automotive Museum.

The research and development offices were on Deering Avenue in Canoga Park. https://www.nytimes.com/2012/12/09/a...-revealed.html

The Twentieth Century Motors showroom was at
16055 Ventura Blvd., Encino

The DALE assembly line needed to get up to standards in the ''door fit'' department. Since they only made 3 cars, the assembly line was rather short.

Several cars have been inaugurated in Los Angeles over the years but sadly all of them went the way of the Dodo bird.

The Peterson Museum also has a surviving Davis Divan, a vehicle brought up on the previous page here. It appeared on a 2015 YouTube episode of Jay Leno's Garage.

rare....rare....rare.

We visited the famous Balloon Route Trolley in the earlier days of nla.but we haven't seen this.

"Los Angeles Hermosa 1906 Panoramic Excursion Train Trolley Photo" (Silver Gelatin On Cellulose Nitrate Negative)

eBay

Asking Price:...US $1,020.00

BUT WAIT! There's a mystery component as well.

The seller included details of the photo and neg. but there's one that doesn't appear anywhere in the panorama.

Link

Here it is. (still in negative form)

With this we might be able to figure out where in Hermosa Beach the photograph was taken.

update: If the neg. is flipped, it does fit onto the left end of the panorama. The seller must have cropped it out.
