I don't remember seeing that cafe in the brick building before.

I believe this photograph of the Greyhound Station may be new to NLA.

found in an old file of mine / flickriver

*several days ago we discussed this intersection because of the three different styles of streetlights in the photo/link below.

As you can see, the five-globe is gone in the top photograph. (is that car with the big fins and advertising on the back bumper a taxi? -it doesn't look like a run-of-the-mill taxi)
-a 'normal' taxi can be seen entering the intersection at far left.

Note the restaurant in the station at far left and the Corral cocktail lounge at far right.

You can get a closer look at the 'Corral' cocktail lounge in this post from six years ago. (with six globe lamp-posts out front)

Oh, no, E_R, I didn't mean that map, I meant I was looking at a Thomas Guide and found there was a Rose Ave. between those two stops on that map (with the red arrow) and so figure that's where the stop was, even though it's not listed on that map.

This might be during WW II. Is that one of those Victory Woodies peeking out from the right side of the Red Car? Maybe its picking up some military men for a trip to Hollywood.

I've been on Rose Ave....it goes right down to Venice Beach and fades left to several parking lots at the sand.

That means Val's is to the left of that building and that San Vincente is the cross street there, so the cafe in question is at Hilldale Ave. to the west.
For years that location was the Hilldale Cafe. More recently it was a French croissant and coffee shop called Champagne, but it's been vacant for
several months at the moment.

And, yes, what's with all the litter? Except on paved streets, were the P.E. tracks all like that and did they have a clean-up detail?

I was looking at the man holding the hat on the bus bench, wondering what the white thing in his hand is. And what the reddish thing on the end of the bus bench is. And then if you look underneath the bench at the end, it looks like two bunny slippers there, or an animal curled up beneath it. (?) Or more litter.

And I would love to know what that 'art deco' building is...the only clue being the "TH" on the red blade sign. I'm guessing that location is on the corner of SMB and San Vicente and is a US Bank location now, formerly Bank of Los Angeles. (Seems to me it had a different bank name even before that.)

As for the cafe at Hilldale, maybe Dorothy Adamson was eating there before this happened:

Bomb goes off in apartment at 1034 1/2 Hilldale Avenue, June 24, 1958. Dorothy Adamson -- 28 years (was eating in nearby cafe when bomb went off).

I thought it said "House" and then maybe "Post House." Then I found this Restaurant Ware Collectors Network site that had the answer:

Established in 1940, Greyhound Post Houses offered both food and companionship to travelers and locals alike. Most of the Post Houses were open 24 hours so they became gathering places for nightowls and people on the nightshift.

There are GREYHOUND POST HOUSES
From the ATLANTIC TO THE PACIFIC
and From CANADA TO MEXICO.

I believe it say "Post House" which was a name of some of the cafes at Greyhound stations at that time.

MP, I believe the 'Post House' restaurant in your link was located in Memphis. (there's one of those touristy straw hats on top of the comic book rack)

Quite a bit of info on Greyhound, Post House Restaurants, and a chain known as Horne's. All basically victims of the Interstate Highway system to one degree or another. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horne's_%28restaurant%29

Guy on the bench is likely holding a Racing Form and waiting for the eastbound car headed for Santa Anita. Looks like he's been there before. Little red beret on the bench and
the white bunny slippers under it were left by Dorothy Adamson when she dropped her coffee and scurried home after hearing the bomb blast. Poor thing.

Great deduction MR. (esp. the part about Dorothy and her bunny slippers!) lol

I was looking closely at the man last night. I couldn't figure out what he's holding. (besides the newspaper/racing forms and a pencil)

I thought perhaps it was a pair of better shoes than the dusty black ones he was wearing...
and once he got to the office, he was going to switch them out. (they're brown, so they match his clothes)
