That seems to be it for the moment. The real residential booms have been in SouthEnd, NoDa, along the Lynx light rail extension, and in SouthPark. Thousands of new apartments have been built and are continuing to be built. Which is great, Charlotte needs more medium density urban neighborhoods.
For sure -- I'd be nice to see more residual development uptown around the commercial area or even more mixed-use areas in Uptown.

FNB Tower has residential units as well. Just b/c they demo the Polk building doesn't mean Northwood Ravin started construction on the apartments (it could sit idle for a while).

There are residential planned at the Brooklyn Village, but it will be a 10-year buildout and they are still negotiating with the gov't. Who knows when construction will actually start.

There are also residential highrise planned at the 7th&Tryon megablock. The winners of the RFP should be revealed sometimes this year along with renderings. A poster from another forum said Cousin Properties & Co. could be the winners since they secured an office tenant.

~23,000 in uptown according to this report. The bar graph shows data dating back to 1994 (page 17).

@JourdanRodrigue

Tepper expanded a little on the push the Panthers are making on a possible MLS bid and also brought up likelihood of future stadium renovations - would be cheaper, house more sports and provide substantial and immediate economic impact. New stadium would cost too much.

This month Panthers filed to rezone their 8.6-acre practice field site uptown (new renderings below.) Plan next goes to CLTCC for a vote. As @JourdanRodrigue wrote last week, work has already begun on the climate-controlled bubble near the stadium https://www.charlotteobserver.com/sp...228177394.html

Re: Regarding the recent announcement of Atrium Health and Wake Forest University planning a 4-year medical school in Charlotte

Wake Forest has a business school in First Ward already...perhaps they can put the medical school close by. Don't think the city has clear plans for Hal Marshall, maybe they can donate the land. It will be close to the light rail and thus access to their medical facilities near UNC Charlotte. Though have a feeling, they are going to pick a location close to CMC main campus.

Side note: holy moly, the acceptance rate is ridiculous at Wake Forest School of Medicine in Winston-Salem...150 students accepted out of nearly 11,000 applicants.

Good?

As for the Silver Line, do you think it will meet ridership goals and be useful since it runs in such a empty area?

The pink was what made it stand out to me, now it is just "another" building.

Indepedence Blvd is one of the busiest corridors in Charlotte and I usually avoid it (both the traffic and the rich snobby people of Matthews...kidding). Wilkinson Blvd may not be as busy, but it is still a major corridor and it goes to the airport and the suburbs across the river. There are spots of empty areas along N. Tryon as well so does that mean we shouldn't have built the blue line extension?

As for the headcount, not sure we will ever have a true number since there are people who don't pay. Don't know if the Silver Line will be useful for others, but I know it will be useful for me since I commute between the airport and uptown.

More info on the Portman South End project at Hawkins St.

Gensler is the architect at 2151 Hawkins. Kimley-Horn is the civil engineer.

Quote:
The tower, approved in a rezoning to be a maximum height of 250 feet, will bring about 275,000 square feet of office space and 20,000 square feet of retail, most of which will be concentrated in a food hall on the ground floor, said Travis Garland, director of leasing at Portman Holdings. The developer expects to break ground on the project — at 2151 Hawkins St., next to Sycamore Brewing — in the fourth quarter of this year, with an estimated construction timeline of 20 to 24 months, Garland said.

Garland said current plans call for a building slightly less than 250 feet — around 220 or 225 feet, with nine floors of office that will sit on top of seven floors of parking. The building has a stepped-up design, intended to help transition the building's mass compared to smaller-scale development around the site, Garland said.

Spectrum South End has its' first tenant...construction to start this summer.

LendingTree to move HQ from Ballantyne to South End

Quote:
The Spectrum Cos. confirmed Tuesday morning that LendingTree, an online lending marketplace, has signed a lease to occupy 175,000 square feet of office space in the first building, taking about five-and-a-half floors on the top of the west building, said Steve McClure, chief operating officer at The Spectrum Cos. The developer will break ground on the building in June, with an expected delivery in late 2020.

New tallest for Ballantyne?

Quote:
The first development to break ground in Ballantyne under Northwood ownership will include a new office building and apartments.

Charlotte-based Northwood Office, established by real estate investment firm Northwood Investors, will break ground next month on an 11-story, 328,000-square-foot office building at 13146 Ballantyne Corporate Place, according to the developer. It will be built along with a luxury apartment tower, to be built in partnership with Charlotte-based Northwood Ravin, another company established by Northwood Investors.

The development site for 13146 Ballantyne Corporate Place is across the street from the Aloft Charlotte Ballantyne hotel, near the Boyle Building.

Charlotte is really starting to look like a "real" city, in terms of urban dense development. Looking great!!!!
