I guess this is the end for glass towers

It’s a shame, I hope de Blasio runs for president so his reputation goes down the tubes

Step 1: insane taxes to drive the people away

Step 2: no "corporate welfare" to drive the businesses away

Step 3: no steel or glass towers to drive the developers away

Step 4: no meaningful investment into roads, bridges, subways or trains

Result: a deserted lifeless ghost town of new york?

this guy's so clueless, nyc is a little pet project for him to mess around in before he wants to run for higher office, the city deserves so much better

NYC is way overdue for big political change in the sense of a different party. The same kind of folks have been running the helm and local government, and all its done is raise prices, and actually make it an unfavorable environment for developers.

There is nothing wrong with making towers energy efficient or greener, but they need to make it happen overtime! A lot of factors come into play, and one factor is translating the cost to the consumer, in this case, folks who rent, who buy, who lease... it all has a big synergy on the overall system.

Why are all the NYC threads getting infected with idiotic fakenews "political" posts today? Have the Russian troll farms infected SSP?

You're overreacting, BdB isn't banning steel and glass skyscrapers any more than he is moving into the White House.

"[T]he de Blasio administration unveiled several initiatives including banning all-glass facades in new construction unless builders meet certain performance guidelines."
It's just simple pressure to get them to build more efficient buildings. They will meet the guidelines and we'll all be better off for it. Glass skyscrapers will survive this simple code adjustment. Relax. Throttle down the hysterics.

^There's no point in sugarcoating it. Yesterday was a laughable day in the history of NYC. A sitting mayor said this verbatim:

“We are going to introduce legislation to ban the classic glass and steel skyscrapers that have contributed so much to global warming,” de Blasio said.
“They have no place in our city or our Earth anymore.”

In New York City of all the places. It would be tough to find a dumber statement by a sitting mayor. The end of his tenure can't come soon enough.

de Blasio isn't really banning glass and steel skyscrapers. But thinking people already knew that.

The Bill de Blasio "glass skyscraper ban" explained:

Smile NEW YORK | 226-232 East Broadway | FT | FLOORS

Project: 226-232 East Broadway

Quote:
The Ascend Group is the developer of the site.

The new design has a completely different curtain wall and building mass than the previous iteration. The featured rendering and the photo above show a building that would easily stand out among its neighboring structures. The exterior appears to have a mix of square- and rectangular-shaped floor-to-ceiling glass panels set between architecturally finished concrete walls. Etched lines on the eastern and western elevations would indicate the location of the floor slabs and also visually add a layer of texture and details to these walls.

The main southern elevation features a number of landscaped balconies that define the profile and aesthetics of the tower. It also is the only side of the structure that has multiple setbacks. The northern elevation that faces Midtown is completely flat, but would utilize the same design approach as the front of 226-232 East Broadway. The roof parapet looks to contain mechanical units hidden within an extension on the building’s flat rooftop. Residents on the upper levels will have views of the Financial District to the south and Midtown to the north, along with clear vistas of the Brooklyn, Manhattan, and Williamsburg Bridges.

Smile NEW YORK | 51-22 Roosevelt Avenue | 190 FT | 17 FLOORS

Project: 51-22 Roosevelt Avenue

Quote:
Permits have been filed for a 17-story mixed-use building at 51-22 Roosevelt Avenue in Flushing, Queens. Located between 51st Street and 52nd Street, the corner lot is steps away from the 52 Street-Lincoln Avenue subway station, serviced by the 7 train. Peng Li under the HW LIC ONE LLC is listed as the owner behind the applications.

The proposed 190-foot-tall development will yield 63,658 square feet, with 62,158 square feet designated for residential space and 1,500 square feet for commercial use. The building will have 90 residences, most likely rentals based on the average unit scope of 690 square feet. The concrete-based structure will also have a cellar and 63 enclosed parking spaces.

Studio C Architects is responsible for the design.

Demolition permits have not been filed as of yet. An estimated completion date has not been announced.
