Actually, they are African Daisies. They are also called "Freeway Daisies" because they are a staple planting along banks of freeways. The yellow form, which these appear to be, are very hardy and once they are put in, you cannot get rid of them. They live in low water conditions and spread prolifically.

A Shasta Daisy is a taller plant, two and a half feet or so, with the flowers on long stems

While the photo indicates 1934 (probably the publication date), the LAPL dates this same shot as actually having been taken on Dec 31, 1933. The library also has the wider view below; both are noted as being West Adams Blvd. Based and the width and the lamps, this would be toward Culver City. Don't think I've ever seen the unusual STOP sign or light....

If you look in the middle of the street you can see one of those horrifically dangerous streetcar Waiting Zones. I can remember those when I was a small child and seeing all of the automobiles rushing towards us as my mother and I waited for a street car. It was absolutely terrifying and obviously dangerous as many people were hit and injured in these Zones.

Just imagine yourself standing in the middle of that street with cars flying by you. It was totally insane.

The upper direction sign attached to the lamp post seems to say:

<- Los Angeles
Beverly Hills 4 ->
West Hollywood 6 ->
Hollywood 7 ->

...which would make a Culver City-ish location possible, looking at the overlapping circles.
