In 1927, Duncan was 50 years old (at her death). I'd opine that she was a youthful looking 50 at that!

GW:I did recall the prior Pelton posts and thank you for mentioning them. The backdrop struck me as familiar but not significant. In throwing out the Figueroa and Thirteenth locale, I was thinking more toward the South Washington area (near the Mode O' Day building) since so many other campy pictures were taken there, e.g., http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/show...ostcount=24430 a As for the exact location of the 1926-Marmon hood dancer, it could have been shot in any number of DTLA parking lots.

It certainly looks as though this was a public street right up to the gate at Bronson and Marathon. It's also interesting to note that television station KTLA was situated so closely, as it was then owned by Paramount. (Any guesses as to the name of the cafe seen behind Norma Desmond?)

The little cafe on the corner still existed in 1961, as can be seen in this aerial shot from The Errand Boy:

When did Paramount take over this block to add a parking lot? The magnificent Bronson gate still exists but it's quite difficult to see from Melrose Ave.

As many know, there were two prior Studio ventures that occupied the 5451 Marathon/ 5300 Melrose lot - prior to Paramount: "Paralta," followed by "Brunton." It is worth noting that one of the sources mentioned below (Rex Ingram book) discusses the fact that Paralta optioned the 18 acre property from Clunes. More on Clunes here: http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/show...ostcount=24508 Robert Brunton, whose name was next attached to the lot, "was appointed executive director of Paralta studios."

Page 2432 of the 1918CD lists "Paralta" Studios, Inc. and Paralta Productions, Inc. at 5300 Melrose. All of these sources strongly suggest Paralta is the correct spelling.

This rekindles another thought, Whether the "Par[a] Alta" had anything to do with the name, "Para""Mount"? Coincidence?

As an afterthought, I noticed a few publicity photos bearing the name "Paralta" "L/A." The '32CD lists a Paralta [photography] Studios at 551 S Broadway. This would have been more than a decade after Paralta's demise so the connection seems purely coincidental.

I have to confess...this area, at the base of Santa Monica Canyon, holds some of my better memories of my time in Los Angeles.
My best friend, who also worked at Lorimar, lived on secluded Hillside Lane near old Rustic Creek.
At the time, I was only in my early twenties, while she was in her early fifties, but she was the life of every party....just an amazing woman.
I miss her very much.

ER...this appears to be a movie studio...Paramount Pictures??. Could that building at the upper right and the right side be sound stages?
Also, the buildings in the middle appear to be typical movie lot offices and technical support.

It kind of reminds me of my days when I worked at Paramount in the 1970s.

Pat Paterson was born on April 10, 1910 in Bradford, Yorkshire, England. She was an actress, known for Charlie Chan in Egypt (1935), Call It Luck (1934) and The Love Wager (1933). She was married to Charles Boyer. She died on August 24, 1978 in Phoenix, Arizona, USA. -imdb

They were married from 14 February 1934 until 24 August 1978 (her death) Boyer, distraught, killed himself two days later.

Thanks Tovangar.!!! I thought that was Paramount Pictures. That old apartment building is still there on Gower. It used to be called Gower Gulch as that's where all the cowboy extras would line up for a days work.

We can always count on ER to give us a good mystery!!!

Here I am inside the studio lot next to the production office for Day of the Locust.
The next film I worked on I played a wealthy mental asylum inmate...type casting....LOL.
