What great photos! I especially like the one with Toronto in the far background. Hamilton has some very nice areas, thanks!

Thanks flar! I love seeing the transformation of the Beach Strip over the years. Tons of renovations have taken place.

The Beach strip has a ton of history as well. During the War of 1812 the Beach strip was a resting place for British troops as it's strategically located close to both Niagara and Toronto. It was called King's Head Inn but it was destroyed by American troops during the War.

After the war the Beach Strip became a place where it transformed Hamilton into the dominate city in the region. At a time Dundas was booming with the Desjardin canal and had a bigger population. Soon George Hamilton, founder of Hamilton saw the importance of the Beach Strip and transformed the place into a major cargo port. After that Hamilton defeated Dundas and become the dominate city in the region. Soon the Desjardin canal closed to cargo.

^ That lighthouse was built in 1858, one of the oldest lighthouse in Canada. Currently it's under renovation with the goal of opening it up to the public next year to allow visitors to climb the tower.

Heh, you took a picture of the house I'm sitting in right now, typing this. I never used to come down to the beach before, but my girlfriend lives here so now I've become very familiar with it. It's at least as beautiful as the pictures in this thread *looks out the window*

I've been over that bridge a few times and had no clue. Great set of pics, and a real eye-opener (in more ways than one). Thanks flar.

such a great neighbourhood. there are a few spots along the strip where you actually forget how close you are to the skyway and the smokestacks...now, if only we could re-route those hydro lines.

hmmm, i have a feeling that girl has a 'butter face.' great body, but 'er face...

I enjoyed taking these pics, there were so many photo opportunities in this area that I missed some stuff, like the Dieppe Memorial that the Prime Minister just visited last week and some other nice houses, parks and scenery. I didn't even have time to go down most of the side streets.

I had been waiting for a nice blistering hot Saturday afternoon for this so I could capture the beach in full swing, but with our crappy weather this summer it never came, so most of the pics are from a cool Tuesday night.

Great series. I didn't know Hamilton had beaches. I particularly enjoyed the pictures of the local 'birds'.

Too bad you didn't get a pic of the Dynes before it was torn down.

On the lift bridge was the first successful nesting of some peregrine falcons last spring.

And great pics Flar

I've drove through this neighborhood a couple of years ago but didn't have time to explore. Thanks for the tour!

Here's a request, Flar. You do such great, focused work on Hamilton and vicinity, how about coming to Toronto and giving everyone a tour of Ward's Island? That would knock people's sock off!
