Ancaster is the wealthiest area in Hamilton, and one of the wealthiest communities in Canada.
Its location on the Niagara Escarpment west of Hamilton provides a beautiful setting for many
luxurious homes and the quaint stone village at its core. Ancaster is also home to the Hamilton
Golf and Country Club, which hosted the PGA's Canadian Open last year. I've tried to photograph
some of the nicer residential areas, but as you can imagine, access is restricted to many of the
most impressive properties, which are behind gates and down private laneways.

The tour begins in Ancaster's historic core:

Makes me wanna be riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiich.

Absolutely great photographs by the way. The colors are so vivid and this is the most beautiful and sharp "mansion thread" i've seen on SSP.

Awesome!

Wow. Very nice neighborhood; the colors are beautiful. This is a "slightly" different side of Hamilton than the one you've shown here before.

Great photos. The 'olde towne' centre was very English looking - some of the most genuinely English looking buildings I've seen from a Canadian city.

Some of those McMansions were 'quite' nice, but most just made me want to go ... lovely autumn colours though, and all very interesting, thanks!!

Ancaster Tim's

Wow, the Town of Ancaster (or now the City of Hamilton) must have been pretty persuasive to convince Tim Horton's to adapt their facade to match most of the existing look of the main street. Tim's is notorious for wanting the same look everywhere...the same goes for that oil lube place.

Nice photos of a nice town.

Nice work flar!

At work we managed to get Christmas dinner at Old Mills, which is above, guess how much it's going to cost?.....$4,250! for about 60 people.

Ancaster I believe still pays the highest property tax in Canada.

Galt, Ontario also looks very English.

These Hamilton neighbourhoods are IMHO nicer than Ancaster:

Durand
Dundas
Westdale
Kirkendall

For the most part they try to maintain the character of the main street. This building is newly built:

Petrolia also managed to get a "Victorian" Tim Horton's.

Those neighborhoods are really pretty, too. I must have missed them when you made the posts. In my comment before, I was comparing this thread's Hamilton to this one's.

There are a couple big mansions near Greensville (which is quite beautiful), but Ancaster has literally hundreds of McMansions, and quite a few actual mansions. Check out the areas around Old Dundas Rd, Lovers Lane, Sulphur Springs, and the Hamilton Golf & Country Club sometime.

A lot of new construction, but I like how well (most of) the developers integrated old trees into the site plans. Makes the McMansions look a lot more bearable.
