SSP Competition: WTB

Okay.... here they are!

1:

2:

3:

4:

5:

Kilometron - 1000m - Completed 2025
Tallest point - 1000m
To points of tower - 940m
Highest occupyable floors - 800m, level 180
Transfer floor at roof level - 700m, level 160*

*3 smaller lifts provide access to each of the 3 points of the tower.

~Basic floor sketches showing elevator splits at transfer level.~

~Level 180 studio apartments/Hotels, Transfer level and Lobby .~

6:

Sky Tower
Height: 4150 ft (1265 meters with spire)
Structure: 3700 ft (1128 meters)
Roof: 3500 ft (1067 meters)
Location: The tower is meant for megacities with high pollution or space problems. The design can be placed in cities prone to earthquakes such as Mexico City where more space would be opened up for parks and be high above the daily pollution smog. It can also be placed in Tokyo, Beijing, Shanghai, etc...

Descriptions: The tower has a basic cone shape to prevent wind resistance. The main supports are six 30foot wide columns which stretch all the way to the top. These concrete towers hold the weight of the entire structure and gradually get smaller as they rise. These towers hold the elevators which connect the "sky communities". Smaller elevator systems are located within these communities. There are also giant emergency stairs and emergency elevators located deep in the columns to protect people from blasts, fires, etc...

The floors are divided into "floor communities" which make people feel like part of a neighborhood, rather than part of a government project. These also allow air to flow through the building, reducing wind resistance and adding fresh air to the atriums.

The spire is hollow with a lattice structure. Inside the spire there are wind turbines which create some electricity for the building. The spire can be an option but not added nor removed.

There are giant atriums in the "sky communities" which allow more homes to be added, allow more natural light to enter the building and reduce the amount of energy consumed. The last 2 sections with atriums don't have middle floors. Instead, a giant 180 foot obelisk rises from the park of the 9th atrium.

These sky communities have parks, community centers, pools, shopping centers, museums, etc... All these things make people feel good, raising the productivity level of workers and making citizens happy. The floor of the atrium above acts a a roof. These roofs have giant lights which change throughout the day (daylight=off/dim, sunset=red/bright, night=blue/semi bright) to lighten the atriums. They are also covered with small LED lights which create the illusion of a sky (day=clouds, dawn=red skies, night=stars).

7:

If you don't see an entry here PM ME. DO NOT begin to post about how I ignored you. I checked everything but I feel like someones entry is missing. Let's see...

Skytower (#6) is just TOO MUCH a rip-off of Skycity 1000

number 7 reminds me of the Combine tower from Half Life 2...
anyway, I go with number 2... very futuristic and at the same time seems kinda classical... I love it.

Wow, I'm surprised number 1 didn't get any votes?

I really thought that one would win (because it was my favorite) but I guess not. Number 1 for me!

I just don't see many of those feasible. I understand that this comp was basically open to all rules but I just didn't find many of them too attractive or make sense of the shape/proportions.

I chose the last one because it seemed whimsical, interesting, and still both technically and economically feasible (relative to the other entries).

actually, as the World Tallest building, SkyTower probably is the one that makes more sense, since its so based on a REAL project...

Not really... trust me... similar characteristics =/= same building. There were some ideas, but I bet you that Skycity 1000 wasn't even in the mind of the person who entered that building (until the basic shape was finished). If any other building inspired it, I would say Millenium Tower did.

I see what you mean though.

As for the entries.... I picked number 1, then number 3 and imo third place is number 5.

@Aleks: even the interior of the structure is quite similar to Skycity 1000!!! The height is basically the same (1000 meters for Skycity, 1061 meters for SkyTower).

Skycity: 12 rings
Skytower: 12 rings

HA! Didn't even notice that until you pointed it out. But Sky city is actually 14 not 12. The height is similar though. Although it was in feet originally.

But let's not highjack the thread.

Alright time for my not-exactly-constructive critiques.

1. I wish we could have seen more renders. I like the complexity but without more renders it is hard to tell much about it.

2. Looks like something I would see next to the Abraj Al-Bait Towers in Mecca. Very cool and almost retro-futuristic like the towers one would see in the Jetsons. My first choice.

3. Whats with the lens flare? lol. I think the tower could have done with a different color scheme, but it is still nice. Try to focus more on the architecture and less on the presentation next time.

4. An interesting tower.

5. Diabolical in a good way. I think some better textures could have made this my first choice.

6. My second choice. I see where the inspiration came from and it looks pretty cool. Unlike most other entries, this one had a good size comparison which makes me appreciate the size.

7. It seems rushed especially with lack of rendering. It reminds me the the citadel from Half Life 2.

1. Not enough effort. It does look nice though. (6)

2. A bit reminiscent of a Muslim mosque, I think a single tower would look nice. The modelling is skilled and i appreciate the time you put into it. (4)

3. Very appealing, nice use of colours. The repetitive sections aren't Kosher in a large building, but then again it is named 'Bamboo' (3)

4. Great detail, Overall a nice shape but a little bit like a penis. I wish i could appreciate it more but dark colours makes me too upset. (5)

5. Who are you kidding, we all know who's model belongs to who. (X)

6. I love that concept. I don't care if it's a copy. This one makes more sense.
I think in real life the materials they use on the building would need to be high quality to compliment the straight lines. (2)

7. Is just cool. I like cool buildings. I don't like the feet though. (1)

I voted number 4. It seems to have a certain feel of timelessness and class that the other towers lack. Though I would've loved to have seen a day render or a render fitting the building in downtown Chicago or something. Still, a very well done effort, I think.
