I think I've found a new love, and her name is Metropolis Light Render.

I've always considered it a massive pain to avoid mostly because I never understood it, and thought I'd have to wait until the 10,000 cycles are done to get a good render, but seeing how 40 cycles is enough to produce a nice rendering, all further renders will be done with my sweet love Metropolis Light Render!

(Note, some of the pictures are of really bad quality because I was pressed for time and used only about 11-20 cycles each)

Nah, this is too small for SSP city...but I'd be more than happy to make a less detailed (because this file is so huge due to the detail) larger airport for SSP city if you want.

Ya MLT is the best setting, it definitely produces the best renders.

anyway, those shots are awesome! the last one is the best, unfortunately its just a little too grainy, but still to all of them!

Bahh, I just spent about 4 hours to make a result I didn't quite like.

I first started with a "cookie-cutter" control tower design that I found on 3D warehouse. It looked really nice, but I didn't make it, so I felt bad keeping it in. I then designed my own ATC tower, another cookie-cutter design found in many airports, but with some small twists to make it unique. I then spent about 3 hours doing lights and ended up with crappy renderings that took forever and a day.

Oh well, for your enjoyment, here are the latest renderings.

Old tower:

lol, messing around on photoshop...Boise foothills in background.

New Tower:

Thank you!

Wow, I just spent the last 4 hours designing the main terminal non-stop...boy am I pooped. So is my computer, probably. I was too tired to render these so here are some unrendered screenshots below. lol, this is one of those models where, after blitzing out for a while on it, I look back and wonder how the hell I did that.

Imagine a crisp and clear Metropolis Light Transport with this model now.

Things to look for in the future:

-Cars
-Parking Garage
-Signage
-Skywalks
-More vegetation detail around park and grassway areas
-Hangars (Maybe)
-Runway (Maybe)

Hope you likey! Comment please so I know if people are enjoying these screenshots, or what I could be doing better. Thanks!

Anthony

Wow, I think I hate you. Your airport models are so so good and mines always come out like crap. I thought that the second render in this page was a real picture. It looks like it was taken with a cell phone at night. And that photoshop is really the most realistic picture on this forum I've ever seen.

Yeah finally moved into my dorm!!!

To celebrate, here's some ss's I've made while dinking around with MLT...oh, and I've officially named this airport "Boise: Anthony-Harding International Airport" named after actor Anthony Hopkins and former President Warren G. Harding and doesn't have anything to do with me, Anthony Harding, whatsoever.

YELLOW!!! Trying to do a sunset.

this is very very cool indeed.

The central atrium and the terminals don't quiet match. I'd remake the roof of the atrium, or have a space and connect them with other 2 lesser atriums.

Wow! That reminds me of Ontario, Ca airport. I've flown in there several times and it works very well in my opinion.

You moved into your dorm?

Anyways, the whole thing looks great. It's kickass. Specially that atrium. Is the drop off the top road or the bottom one?

Hrmm, sorry to reply so late, I missed your comment. Yes indeeedy, fully moved into my kicksmass dorm complete with airplane posters, movie posters, and 1:200 scale airplane models. Thanks fo the compliments on the airport! the drop off is the top road (though that'll be fixed in the future.)

Earth shattering breaking news! Indeed this news is so breaking that you may die if you do not see it!!!!!!11!1! The airport has expanded!!

Hypothetically, this is the airport I could imagine if Boise had 5,000,000-6,000,000 passengers per year. (Currently, we have aroun 3,300,000 pax per year). Of course, I'm taking liberties here, and some of these routes probably wouldn't work. I'm also assuming Southwest leaves Boise (I did this for two reasons: The models weren't made nor painted by me, and while I think they're an OK airline, I've always wished to see Alaska win in their battle for Boise! [Okay, not really a battle, but more of a rivalry. {Wowohweewow! Parenthesis in Parenthesis in Parenthesis! Cool!!!}])

Here is the daily schedule:

Alaska Airlines/Horizon Air: (Total 47 daily flights, 12 mainline)
SEA - 3x 738, 1x 734, 1x 739, 3x DH4
PDX - 3x 734, 4x DH4

GEG - 2x 734, 2x DH4

Broken down by aircraft

320 - 11x
319 - 5x
318 - 1x
M80 - 6x
190 - 1x
CR7 - 3x
CRJ - 10x
DH4 - 30x
DH8 - 9x

I R TEH NOT ARPLANE NEERD!!!!!!1!!11!!1!!!!!111111

Now, 2 nice renders of the expanded terminal and new parking garages!

Note: All the lights and photo-realistic grainyness in the last one were done with Photoshop. I was pretty happy with the result.

Future updates to come:
-Additions to atrium roof (I agree, currently it's kind of bland)
-Sky bridges to another parking garage and light rail terminal
-Finished road complex
-Runways/Taxiways?

Enjoy! Comments always appreciated!

Anthony

Well, an unexpected update just happened...out of a whim I started curiously looking into designing my own jetways and lo and behold, 3 hours later I have a highly realistic, easy to modify jetway that I not only can claim is mine, but now looks a hell of a lot better, imo.

Screenshots tomorrow (reason being, I'm doing an overnight MLT render)...

New Jetways installed and complete. I also layed off a lot on the planes for this set because it actually is only a brief part of the day does one see so many aircraft. I also added and experimented with lights.

Compare the new jetways with these old ones:

Please tell me what you think! It's quiet in this thread.

Wow, nice renders. I agree with Austin, some lights coming from the cars, planes, blah blah blah would be nice. Those renderings would look like real pictures. And I can't wait for the runway. I always have fun at the airport when the little lights are turning on and off on the runway. They just look cool. I think it's because I like shiny things but come on, who doesn't.

And photoshopping a moon would be cool too.

OMG OMG OMG!
How have i missed this thread?
I feel downright silly.

Wow you've got one serious work of art here. I love airports too, not as much as you obviously, but I seriously love every minute when i'm inside an airport.

I've only been to Sky Harbor, LAX, and Midway, and Bob Hope in Burbank, but thats not a major one hah.

LAX is amazing, although I'm biased cause I love LA.
Sky Harbor, well I dont care much for Arizona, but Sky Harbor is one lovely and clean airport with views of the mountians and downtown Phoenix.
Midway, was pretty dated, it might look good if it was 1995, but eh it was pretty creepy at 1am, but nice in the morning.

Idk why I went ranting about airports, but I'd love to hear your opinions on these airports if you've been to any of them.
