Steel Rises At Seven-Story, 18-Unit Building At 222 North 11th Street In Chinatown

Previous site:

Quote:
The steel frame has risen two levels high at the seven-story, 18-unit mixed-use building under construction at 222 North 11th Street in Chinatown, Center City. The development is situated on the west side of the block between Race and Vine streets, half a block north of the Convention Center (thus situating the project within the Convention Center District). Permits list Liu Construction Inc. as the contractor.

The new building replaces the Vietnam Palace, a renowned restaurant that has occupied the two-story building for several decades. The property owners first received a variance to redevelop the property in 2016, yet the restaurant continued to operate until early 2020. The structure was torn down earlier this year.

I'm gonna miss that urine stained, needle depository that was that stretch in front of that 7-11. Also, nothing like the site of a junkie crapping in that hedge while eating al fresco at Sancho Pistolas...

Some good things have to come to an end.

Looks like we have another large building coming to the vicinity of 42nd and Chestnut! Looks like this proposed building will eventually replace the existing building that houses Kabobeesh:

ZP-2021-006334
Dec 1, 2021
26 S 42ND ST, Philadelphia, PA 19104-3053 RITIS L L C, A PA LIMITED LIABILITY CO, SISKO INC 3, 3

For a lot adjustment to create one (1) parcel from two (2) OPA accounts, as shown on the attached plans. Application for the erection of a structure with sixty-three (63) dwelling units, forty-two (42) bicycle spaces, nineteen (19) off-site vehicular parking spaces, and ground floor commercial space, as shown on the attached plans. Removal of all existing structures on property.

Also, has anyone heard anything about this, or is it more of a conceptual render? If this is real, then a 7-story mixed-use building at the corner of Broad, 66th Ave, and Old York Road would be amazing for the area!

I know it's either been a Londonee or 3rdBrown pet peeve for years and years that nothing was ever done but incredibly, Walnut Street has been lined on both sides of the street with potted Xmas trees. Could there be more decorations? Sure, but this seems to be first step seemingly done in decades.

I saw it too a couple of days ago; first step for sure, but long way from giving the holiday vibe feel with decorations. And I didn't see any holiday decorations in Rittenhouse Sq unless I missed it cause I was in a car. Not sure if that area is under some business association auspice to spend more $$$ on outdoor holiday decorations to get people in the spirits and maybe more shopping.

Usually the square has a really nice tree in the center and light balls in the trees. Perhaps they aren't installed / lit yet. But I think its paid for by the Square Association, always looks fantastic.

The official tree and holiday lighting is on Monday. The tree is already in place but not lit.

Glad you have pet peeves vs my existential dread of the homicide rate and another round of Covid lockdowns. Trying to push that down and focus more on the wanting of additional holiday cheer.
