Infill at 3730 4th st has been move in ready for a couple months now this shiny new building adds a crispy feel to lower cass. FYI this is one of a couple photos I posted over on the found Detroit thread.

to be fair that townhouse complex is about a decade old and was built before the market in Detroit really took off.. I don't think you'd see it get built today.

I don't think most people understand that they're completely reconstructing the original atrium rendered here almost from scratch. The only thing that was still there was the dome. They are remaking all the marble and the plaster, most of the glass, everything.

This kind of ground up restoration is almost unheard of in the US, pretty incredible what they're doing.

Looks like they’ve already demolished the building next to the Rivertown Market. Wonder what they are going to build or if it is going to be surface parking lot expansion. Demolition occurs too fast but seems to take forever to build or to start building.

I have mixed feeling about the demolition about this building. I'm dissapointed that it was taken down so quick without a known plan to replace it. It will probably be vacant for a long time similar to the BigBoy site near Belle Isle.

However, I always hated that building, it was an ugly credit union building that didn't add anything to East Jefferson. The set back on the building reminds me of something you would see in the surburbs.

Hopefully with the new meijer, and planned Jefferson Streetscape, their is a enough interest to build a new mid rise apartment building at the location.

Im glad you appreciate what we're doing! This whole project is extremely challenging but the end product is going to be fantastic!

Good news at the fairgrounds:

Detroit City Council OKs new transit center at old State Fairgrounds site

Plans to preserve historic structures for a new transit center at the former Michigan State Fairgrounds site will move forward in the city.

Detroit City Council on Tuesday approved the new $18.6 million price tag for the future transit center, which includes plans for an outdoor park and renovated historic structures to replace the current bus hub on Woodward Avenue south of 8 Mile.

The initial $7 million plan was to raze existing historic structures for a new transit center that would complement the Rosa Parks station but preservationists urged officials to save them. Developers plan to restore the Dairy Cattle Building to serve as the main access for drivers and passengers. The 1924 Coliseum will be demolished but the facade will remain as an entry point, COO Hakim Berry said at a news conference earlier this month.

Does any one know what happened to the large iron stove that sat at the State Fair Grounds for so many years? It seems to me it would not be out of place in the new park area, or right out at the corner of 8 mile and Woodward where it used to be. It would be a touch of nostalgia for us old folks...

Does any one know what happened to the giant iron stove that sat for years at 8 Mile and Woodward, outside the State Fair Grounds? It came from a time when stoves like that were manufactured here. It would be a nice addition to the new park to tie in some history like that.

It was hit by lightning in August 2011 and burned down.

The giant stove itself was actually a wooden replica. It got struck by lightning 10 years ago and was completely burned.

In 2014, the first brick-and-mortar Xhibition location opened in Cleveland. Since then, the retailer has grown its physical and digital presence.

Detroit breaks ground on first Healthy Housing Center for homeless

DETROIT – The City of Detroit has broken ground on the second and final phase of the city’s first Healthy Housing Center (DHHC), that will offer shelter and other services to people experiencing homelessness.
Neighborhood Service Organization (NSO) and Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan were among those at the ground breaking ceremony at the site, located at 3426 Mack Ave.
The 22,000-square-foot facility is the second and final phase of NSO’s Healthy Housing Campus, a comprehensive site with a holistic service delivery model that is part of a $22 million vision offering an innovative approach to end chronic homelessness in the city of Detroit.

The first of its kind in the state, the DHHC will deliver solutions not only for the homeless, but for the entire Detroit community.

Crain's is also reporting that Pontiac-based Asphalt Specialists is proposing a new asphalt plant on the former site of Farmer Jack's headquarters at 12155 Southfield Service Drive on the westside.

Developer working on Black-owned business campus in large new Detroit building

Detroit-based Latimer Ashley Development Co. LLC is proposing to pay the Detroit Brownfield Redevelopment Authority a little more than $3.1 million for approximately 30 acres, The site includes about 160 parcels sandwiched between McGraw Avenue to the north and I-94 to the south, west of Warren Avenue and east of Parkdale, adding up to between 440,000 and 480,000 square feet of new space.

The site is immediately east of a large building for ThyssenKrupp AG along I-94 and sits near users like Coca-Cola, Oasis Trucking Centers, UPS and DTE Energy Corp., according to marketing materials by Farmington Hills-based Friedman Real Estate, which owns property in the footprint but is not believed to be involved in the Latimer Ashley effort.
