^ I mean filler as far as the height/skyline goes.

I think the design itself is closer to a classic New York skyscraper than any of the other Hudson Yards towers. But the cladding will determine a lot towards how people generally feel about the design.

I'm ok with it.

^This is true. The multiple setbacks and long vertical lines give it a shockingly gothic quality to it. The potential is there.

The setbacks are subtle enough to be tall without bragging.

They still refer to it as the Equinox tower. The art piece at the center of the plaza will be a $150 million 15-story work, which I guess translates to about 150 ft.

Site Photos Capture Construction Progress at Hudson Yards

Quote:
Across the street to the south is 35 Hudson Yards, slated to become the first Equinox-branded 200-room hotel, with office and retail spaces at the base and a residential component on the highest levels. Designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP (SOM), the 300-metre building will be home to 135 luxury condominiums. The site where the tower is rising can be seen in the foreground of the picture below, where a red crane is currently assembling the tower's first floors.

Looks like pvc foam board material.

Although 3d printing will be the next big thing with building models. Definitely better than balsa wood.

Recent Photos Show Hudson Yards Taking Shape

Quote:
Bordered by 10th Avenue, 11th Avenue, West 30th Street, and West 34th Street, the Eastern Yard is currently a web of cranes and steel. Recent photos depict the mesmerizing scene at the site of phase one, with nearly all of its buildings now under construction.

good lord those fully built hudson yards renders are wild.

as for this one, can setbacks be both subtle and bold at the same time?

I like the proportion
(height to width) of this tower.
the slight curves way up top are sort of interesting . .
but the tower overall looks unresolved . .
and is too timid and unremarkable . .
though it's not offensive . .
the original version was better than this . .

the boring boxy thing North of 35 looks 60's-ish . .
& barely merits placement on 3rd Ave in the 40s . .
the Corset to the South . .
without its weird midriff bulge . .
has a shape that no longer has any rationale . .
or integrity . . and looks halfway to nowhere . .
. . this permutation of 35HY is best of the three
. . which ain't sayin' beans . .
