They'll be discussing those ideas at about 4:35 according to the schedule (http://mas.org/summit-2012-schedule/) and the Midtown East rezoning at 3:20.

It's being streamed here...

Could this give us an idea of what the buildings going to look like? Interesting idea but i thought they were doing one really tall tower.

Well, this is a SOM project, not a real project, but interesting. I think that SL Green wants a very tall tower (possibly the tallest of NYC) and the KPF project will be very different from these towers.

Not really. The Municipal Art Society (one of the great civic organizations) put out a request for proposals in conjuction with the City's own plans for the area. They are not specific proposals, but an "imagining" of what could be done. Grand Central turns 100 next year, so it has been equally relevant to how the area responds.

The rendering below is an idea from SOM of what could be built if developers work together. The gist of that plan seems to be the observation platform/wheel which moves up and down.

Here's a screenshot I took. I think that this is a much, much better concept than the one with the skybridge.

If they reclad the Metlife building it would perfect that scene. I like this concept much better, there's more height and no ring

The Metlife building has a nice flat roof and is 800 ft. The tower in this rendering could be close to 1400 ft

About 400M/1300ft although it could be up to 430M/1400ft.

I feel this should be done in Times Square instead, if there's space. Two towers, similar in design to the Petronas, with a skybridge over the crossroads of the world.

One of the shots I couldn't get, they were moving pretty quickly...

Here are more rough screen grabs...

This thing moves up and down...

The two tower proposal could have two 350m towers

Awesomeee renderings. I love what I saw from Foster about ways to simultaneously improve transportation and public space around GCT, and those renderings show it. I really hope it looks like that.

Proposal One:
This tower can *really* produce some visually exquisite interplay between it and Lady Chrysler if a few things IMO are taken into consideration:
1. Don't put the greenery on the top diamond.
2. Work *just a bit* on the geometry of the structure, as IMO the northerly perspective looks somewhat disjointed. Perhaps it would make more sense if the intent were to show two crystalline structures melding, but each would have a different facade treatment. Suppose one of them would sport a sheer (mult-tinted??) glass face like that of 4WTC while the other would look more like that of BPC or a similar cubed window treatment.
3. The idea of re-doing MetLife/PanAm like a Brutalist Big Mac without the top bun has got...to...go. If they want to do the greenery arm extensions, they'd certainly have *my* blessing. But leave it at that....for God's sake(!)

Proposal Two:
The "Isildur and Anarion Fighting Over The Same Hula Hoop" motif just doesn't do it for me. Neither tower exactly flatters Lady Chrysler's illustrious status and presence on the skyline...yet. Some tweaking is needed, especially on the one with the cross-bracing. The one abutting Chrysler I like a lot even now, as it looks very much like the cancelled WaldorfAstoria proposal in Chicago. But again, the Ob Deck Donut needs serious reconsideration. It's not only IMO overly incongruent with the surrounding structures; but it seems at least IMO too *fat*, something that only sticks out more the higher it's placed.

Pretty overwhelming looking at these renders - the possibilities of what could be are amazing.
