CBC Turns 75!

Seems like a pretty important milestone in Canadian broadcasting! Well, what do you guys think of it? What are some of your favourite memories? What does the future hold?

We're celebrating the anniversary of a once-respected news corporation that has become secretive , flaunts the law , has a noticeable ideological bias , and sucks up cash to pay for programming that nobody wants to watch . While definitely worse , at least Fox pays for itself .

I'm definitely torn about this. Pay millions of tax dollars towards "Being Erica", or have to put up with Fox. Not sure which is the worse hell.

I hope you're talking about Fox News, because the Fox Network is great... they gave us Family Guy and that great NFL on Fox theme music!

Well... and cancelled most of their best shows (including Family Guy, TWICE).

Fox is just plain annoying. Even the good things they do are mixed in with a healthy dollop of evil.

CBC is a national institution that these days is not living up to its potential; however, on both radio and television it is the most complete network, and I would argue Radio One is the best talk radio we have.

The biggest improvement CBC needs to make is to its regional response. CBC does serve Northern Canada very well with its multiple language programming on both radio and television, and at least on radio has local presence throughout the North. However, I also think it needs to develop a better regional presence in Southern Ontario and other areas. Where I live we get a local afternoon show meant for Toronto listeners. It's a great show if you're in Toronto, but it's a waste of airwaves elsewhere.

It's money that I would rather see put into health care or housing.

As much as it pains me to say, the CBC's best days are likely behind it

When I am PM, we will fund it like all hell and it'll be as important here as the BBC in UK, but until then, I guess we'll have to put up with Ghost Whisperer

Happy 75 CBC

I love the idea of a national broadcaster - like BBC. However, our CBC is in need of major tweaks to say the least. Nonetheless, happy 75th.
