This is one of the last super-tall buildings with windows that can actually be identified clearly.
The last traditional skyscraper ?

By far my favorite skyscraper in Los Angeles. You can't fully appreciate it until you've seen it up close and in person (I'm not usually a fan of po-mo, but I love the intricacies, the forced cohesion of circles and squares, and the crown).

That said, US Bank should be ashamed of itself for vandalizing the crown.

US Bank is such a great building. The set backs at the top of the building make it look different.

My favorite building in LA. It is a little-known fact that the Library Tower was inspired by a fictional building in the movie "Bladerunner", a film which pre-dated the design and construction of the Library Tower. If you watch the movie closely, you will indeed see her crown several years before she was built...

Yeah, it was covered in one of my architectural classes many years ago.

There she is... on the movie poster...

Here's a couple of screengrabs:

Two thoughts on this building:

1. The US Bank logo is atrocious. Borderline reprehensible.

2. I like this building, but don't love it by any means. It has a nice shape, but there aren't enough contrasting colors to make the form spring to life. The combination of the punched-facade windows (lacking both verticality and horizontality) along with the absence of any dark colors (the windows seem to have their shades drawn more often than not) kind of leaves the building looking whitewashed, and in the process destroys the drama of the setbacks and all. If only the architects used some kind of accent color in the stone that you could actually notice from more than a quarter mile away (those light grey squares don't count!), they would've done this tower a huge service.

Yeah, OK, whatever

It looks very much like the Library Tower, although perhaps you were expecting an exact replica? (perhaps a US Bank logo on the Bladerunner building would tie things together for you?) It is easy to see how the architects emulated this building; in fact, they've even stated that the aforeshown building in the movie "Bladerunner" was indeed their inspiration for the Library Tower.

Okay it really wasnt that noticable, I guess the shape is kindof simular to the US Bank Tower but IMO its not really that simular as you say

Random thought but whenever I pictured LA in the future I pictured the US Bank Tower with four large pointed fins added atop it, somewhat like a compass pointing North, South, East West.

I remember my first book of skyscrapers by Judith Dupree had a large photo of the tower from that last angle - I was spellbound.

If it makes you guys feel any better, US Bank ruined our tallest building with their ugly signs, too.
