There was definitely a huge spire in the rendering, but like I said, no way it should count. 469.16 feet is the final answer

bwaha my old website! I felt pretty accomplished when I was the first to break the news with a rendering. That was some guerilla journalism back in the day! Man, the 50megs site even still redirects to my old GeoCities website. Ah, the memories!

That building would have been interesting, no doubt about it. I think it would've been extremely divisive as a tower but also one that definitely would become a landmark that could be easily associated with Salt Lake if you just randomly saw it (like the Cash Register Building in Denver).

Village at North Station - Additional Demolition Permits

Demolition permits have been filed for:

1955 North Temple
(The old Wells Fargo Building)



and 1971 North Temple



to make way for the 7 building Village at North Station project. The two properties were not part of the original plan, but have since been absorbed by the large apartment complex.

Seeing so much surface parking as part of the The Villages at North Station project across the street from a transit stop still makes me sick.

Looks like the only building they're demolishing is the Deluxe Tattoo Building, which is really the coolest building on that site. The rest appear to remain based on the rendering:



Kinda bummed. I've always liked that little tattoo building.

I really like your input Mr. Amazing. The eighties were fun for me generally, but not good for downtown. The videos you provided really help illuminate the incentives for building back then. There is no question that some of the building that took place downtown at that time was not thought through.

I feel your analysis could be very accurate for the city's future.

As you mentioned, an important issue that could derail everything would be economic instability. Inflation is starting to surge throughout the economy.

That could be a real problem shortly.

There is also the towers that are planned as part of The West Quarter Phase II. After Astra Tower, it's the second phase of The West Quarter and I am most interested to see come to fruition.

Does anyone have any updates on the Post Office in RWP by any chance?

Yeah, we will have to wait and see with inflation. Hopefully it will drop to normal after a quarter or two.

One of the applicants for the vacant SL city council position (Mark Fife) mentioned and endorsed the Rio Grande Plan in his pitch to the council yesterday. He wasn't ultimately selected for the job but it was still fun to see the idea brought up publicly in front of the council

For those that might have missed it, Hatman gave a quick update a few days ago on r/DevelopmentSLC:

I'm also excited for the West Quarter Phase II, but I don't feel like I should include it in that list until we get something more concrete. I'm also holding out hope that they raise the height of the towers in Phase II.
