If you love modernism, you love this building. I love it.

I love Modernism. Many people don't because they regard it as too plain or sterile. I prefer Art Deco, but what can you do.

You and I have the same taste. I'll take a city of these towers since we won't be seeing any deco towers anytime soon.

I love modernism too, but if we end up with a sea of buildings like this we'll end with an excruciatingly boring looking city. Architecture should inspire, excite, and beautify besides fulfilling its basic functions. The criticism is that developers are simply fulfilling function with little regard for the rest. These will improve the block immensely, but do little to build Toronto into an architectural delight.

There's a difference between the Modernism of Mies and the superficial neo-modernism of aA.

Apparently the massing model, is the rendering for this project. So don't expect big changes from the post made on design from this and the previous page.

Cal, What is your source? I hope you're not counting on the link that people on UT were freaking out over. It is dated May 4, 2011. About 6 months before the meeting so it shows how preliminary in the planning stage those drawings are: http://501yonge.ca/drupal/sites/defa...01drawings.pdf

I was personally at the 501 Yonge Street community consultation meeting in November, and Peter Clewes said those images were massing studies to show a project of that size's visual impact on the area.

Yes, I was referring to the information posted at UT.

You have to admit these do look like the prototypical aA, Peter Clews design mold.

I don't agree. this is not typical of Aa at all actually... Aa usually produces solid designs, but never a breathtaking design. this isn't even solid.

Where do you get 46 floors from? I count about 54 floors, plus the mech... my guess is 175 metres.

This has gone from forgettable to utterly pointless. It was architecturally bland, but at least it had some scale to it. Now? Why bother at all.

I think the NIMBY's really had a lot to do with the redesign. What I'm wondering is, if Lanterra makes any money at all with this scaled down verison of the project. They've basically taken it down by about 40 to 30%, somewhere in there must have been some really good profit margins, that will now be forsaken.
