I'd love to see that crappy 1950s brick building on 23rd come down. It's atrocious.

113 West 24th Street Nears Pinnacle In Chelsea

Quote:
Construction is nearing topping out at 113 West 24th Street, a 39-story Marriott hotel in Chelsea. Designed by Stonehill & Taylor Architects and developed by Lam Generation, the tower will stand 420 feet tall and yield 360 rooms averaging around 380 square feet apiece. The site is located between Sixth and Seventh Avenues.

Recent photos show the tremendous amount of progress that has occurred since our last update in March 2019, when construction had just begun to rise above grade. Now, the reinforced concrete superstructure is only a few floors away from reaching the parapet, and much of the glass curtain wall has been installed. Long vertical strips of dark metal panels separate the windows on the northern and southern elevations, while the eastern and western walls are likely to be left as blank concrete.

113 West 24th Street will yield 136,700 square feet, with 129,590 square feet devoted towards commercial use. There will be ten rooms per floor from the fourth floor to the 41st floor, and a rooftop bar. The nearest subways are the 1 train at the corner of West 23rd Street and Seventh Avenue, and the F, M, and PATH trains at the intersection of West 23rd Street and Sixth Avenue. Madison Square Park is a short walk to the east along Fifth Avenue. There are a number of nearby construction projects simultaneously rising around Stonehill’s design, including 39 West 23rd Street by COOKFOX and 140 West 24th Street by Gene Kaufman.

A finalized rendering has not been released, and the image last seen on the construction board is likely outdated. The structure as previously rendered would have offered a striking design with its dramatic white fins, but the project’s substantial height will still contribute favorably to the skyline.
