Talking JERSEY CITY | 32 Oakland | 167 FT | 14 FLOORS

This was just approved by the planning board in Jersey City! It's located in the growing Journal Square district. These mid rises are very much welcomed (except by the NIMBYs) as it continues with the revitalization of the community and gives more variety of the buildings than just the high-rises.
JERSEY CITY — Two high-rises slated for the same block near Journal Square were approved by the Jersey City Planning Board Tuesday night over the objections of a group of neighbors who say they fear increased traffic and parking problems.

The projects — 32 Oakland Ave. and 345 Baldwin Ave. — will include a total of 413 units and 202 parking spaces. They will sit on either end of a block that runs along Washburn Street, about a quarter-mile east of the Journal Square PATH transit hub.

...

Supporters of the projects say they will help bring more life to the neighborhood. Critics say real estate development in the Journal Square area is coming at too fast a pace, with thousands of units planned for construction in the next few years.
As a technical note, there is a 17 foot "accessory structure." I'm guessing that might be part of the built at 184ft. There are also 297 units, just under 60,000 sqft of office, ground floor retail, basement parking for 181 parking spaces in two underground floors, and 141 bike spaces. It will be an automated parking facility, which will be a first for the area.

2020 Census will be interesting for JC. The city is adding a hell of an amount of mid-rises. Many, looking to be over 300+ units. Starts to add up!

Journal Square use to be a dump back in the day. Now, its up and coming and glorious!

The one where they somehow cramed 650 units, more than Journal Squared 1, replacing a couple storefronts on Newark Ave takes the cake though.

Journal Square has gone nuclear. The place was a dump but thanks to the PATH train and all the development, I bet it will be the trendiest place in Jersey City. Downtown is too catered towards the rich whereas Journal Square is attracting everyone as it's the last affordable neighborhood within 20 minutes of Manhattan.

I remember when Journal Square Pub was the highlight of the area. That and Kennedy Fried Chicken!

They did some minor prep in October, but it's been quiet since. My last photo was from 12/23 - it looked the same in January.

Hm, haven't updated this one in a while. It's well under construction - piling and digging.

Very Vinoly-esque. Looks pretty damn good. I'm surprised that much mass is going to be built right over the Bergen cut.
