^that's so funny that the rendering they're using on the fence is basically just an architect's dinner napkin sketch

Love the ghost of the arches on the party wall of the neighboring building. Obviously not the direct inspiration for the design of this tower, but could see how one might easily make that mistake.

NY is so nuts right now with developing that 800 ft'ers literally go unnoticed unless you are a skyscraper junky. This one will surprise a lot of people once it starts rising.

An excellent rendering can be seen.

^Those renderings look like two different buildings! Will this building have arched openings on the N and S sides, and then upside down arches on the E and W sides? The scaled columns (not sure how else to put it) at each level also look like a new revision.

This design is turning out to be quite a beauty.

Another 800 footer rising. Another one!!!

====================
====================

David Adjaye’s Financial District condo is beginning to rise:
The building will eventually stand 800 feet tall and bring 244 apartments to the neighborhood

Quote:
David Adjaye’s first NYC skyscraper is finally getting off the ground, 6sqft reports. The publication spotted a construction crane at the site, at 130 William Street, in the Financial District, and reports that the building has now reached street level.

Eventually, this Lightstone-developed building will have 66 stories and stand 800 feet tall. This project has been in the works since at least 2015; several buildings had to be demolished to make way for the new condo building, and excavation work on the site got underway last summer.

For months there was speculation about who would design this skyscraper. Adjaye’s name first came forward in May last year, but it wasn’t officially confirmed until later in the year.

In December last year, we finally got the first comprehensive look at the condo building, which showed off the building’s hand-cast concrete exterior. The building will have a total of 244 apartments, and sales are expected to launch this year, with the first set of residents moving in sometime in 2020.

I hate these afterthought mechanical boxes.

^Agree 100%

A pair of particularly bad ones are on top of the skewed American Copper Buildings, where they are naturally un-skewed and look ridiculous and go a long way towards ruining an otherwise stunning design.

Agreed. They also light up the one on the taller tower but not the shorter one, and it drives my inner perfectionist crazy. One of the few times JDS Development has disappointed us.

The sad thing is that these mechanical towers don’t have to be ugly. The two little temples at the top of the San Remo on Central Park West, for example, were designed to hide the building’s rooftop water towers. Even a building as ostensibly functionalist as 432 Park manages to hide its mechanicals by just extending the facade upwards another two stories. Unfortunately, a lot of architects and developers seem to regard rooftop structures as an afterthought. It’s such a wasted opportunity.

I'm wondering if there'll be a different number of window rows per floor.

On one pic I counted six on what I presume to be the south and East River profiles; but the night render (Hudson profile?) shows eight. Also, I would think the color change might be due to a possible floodlighting illumination scheme...kinda like RCA/Comcast.

The American Copper building is a great example (well, awful...). River North in Chicago is plagued by them also.

It's lazy architecture. You should know the mechanical systems your building requires and design the building with the space they will require in mind. Not just tack it on top in some cheap metal box.
