The forecast said 27C but...

30C with a humidex of 35 and mainly sunny today.

Our 13th day above 30C this month. Trudeau was actually the warmest place in the province with an official high of 30.5C.

Low of 21C (humidex of 28) this morning.

Official low of 22.9C yesterday which breaks the daily record for warmest minimum (22.2C in 1949).

The warmspot was Nelson, BC at 34.9C.

Ah man now the other next door neighbour gets the hotspot of the country.
Oh well being in the hottest region of the country two days straight is still pretty good.

We broke our streak of 9 straight month below normal in style... 3rd warmest month ever for Montreal with monthly mean of 23.5C.

Also downtown Montreal and Windsor are tied at 24.1C for the month. We'll see tomorrow if the warmest day will allow Downtown Montreal to successfully defend its title and finish as the official station with the warmest month for the year in Canada.

The humidity broke, and now we have a sunny, warm dry pattern coming up.

7 day highs: 27/28/28/27/29/25
7 day lows: 14/12/16/15/16/19

We haven't hit as low as 12 degrees since June 12th.

Cloudy, sunny breaks, and 23 feels like 30 (dew point 20, RH 80%) at 11am. Clouds should break away before noon and really heat things up.

Airport expected to get up to 28 with a humidex of 35 today. Areas to the west and inland likely to break 30 with humidex values likely near 36-37. I suppose there is a likelihood that the airport station could break 30, but probably not. None the less, this will probably end up being the hottest day of the summer for St. John's (I said that a lot last summer only to have it be warmer just a few days later lol).

Overall: We finished below average (again), mostly from a very cold start to July. The past week has been nice and above average. One thing really noticeable though is that it's been cool overnight, with a lot of chilly lows. I guess it requires it to warm up during the day for it to stay warm overnight though

July Stats for my station:

Average High: 29.6C
Average Low: 12.0C
Mean: 20.8C

In land location in a low elevation sandy soil environment breeds smoking hot days but cool nights, kind of like a desert! Our average high was 2.6C above norm.

I don't have a weather station, but as a statistics and weather nerd I might consider getting one eventually. I am not sure the conditions in my yard would be ideal for installing one. It is a small-ish, fenced yard facing west. My neighbour has a very large tree that projects shadow on half the yard, not sure if it's a good thing or not in this case. I will probably have to do some research as having a weather station with inaccurate readings would defeat the purpose of having one.

Keeping away from the sun is key but if it is one of those ones where you have a sensor and not a wind reader, you can't put it in the deep deep shade. On the trunk of a tree on the side where it gets no sun but a breeze can pass is good. Keep away from vinyl siding or brick or a/c units, heating vents etc. I have one and I've tried a number of locations around the house. I find the airport temps read low early in the day. Gatineau airport is a known 'frost hollow' especially on calm winter mornings.

It might be fine, weather stations shouldn't be set up in direct sunlight anyway (though most these days come with their own Stevenson screen or something acting like one) so it may be fine. Wind readings in sheltered back yards may be hard unless you can get your station high enough off the ground to get decent wind readings, though I think the standard for air temperatures is to be 2m off the ground?

I'm still thinking about one for my own yard. It's pretty sheltered back there, it may be a nice microclimate.

EDIT: pesky sea breeze! We were warming up real nice, 29 felt like 38....then the winds shifted from the southwest to a slight northeasterly breeze. Now my neighbourhood has cooled down to 26.

Winnipeg averaged 26.7 for July surprisingly enough with only one +30 day but with 22 days above 25.

Hot start to Aug, 30 right now!

PS Edmonton July avg. 22.6, Calgary July avg. 22.3

Most weather stations are designed to be placed in the sun.

Avoid the older Accurite 5 in 1 with the single solar panel, it will give temps 2-3 degrees too high if the sun hits at certain angle. The Accurite with dual solar panels is okay and very inexpensive.

21 to 23 at 2pm in Victoria, partly cloudy and humid. A high of 23 forecast for today with a mix of sun and cloud. It looks like we'll beat our high as it's getting fairly sunny.

Yesterday was a muggy, hazy day with highs of: 23c (Airport); 24c (UVic) and 25c (Langford).

Hotspot on the Island yesterday was Shawnigan Lake @ 28c.
