The only instance of what you mentioned that I remember of this on NLA is when there were a series of great Kodachrome photos being posted with the green embitt scan across them and _______*_ had removed a few of those watermarks and he related that the seller had notified him not to do it.

*I know who it is but not sure I should say.

Anyway, it makes me wonder, are there internet rules about removing watermarks? I know eBay sellers do it as they're selling things that otherwise might not sell without those watermarks, but a lot of what they're selling gets sold and never seen again, so removing them after they're sold? Problem? I don't know.

Selfishly, I love whenever someone removes watermarks on photos I like, but I'd also rather see a photo with one than not see it at all.

I guess it depends on where the high school was located in 1915.


If the 1915 location was the same as the present day Inglewood High School.. I thought, perhaps, the Japanese Park was located where the City of Inglewood eventually built their library.

The situation you mentioned was the one I was referring to. (as far as I know it's the only time it has happened)

No, I am not but I thought I should inform Scott Charles what had happened in the past.
(I don't believe Ebay sellers could legally stop a person from removing their nonbinding watermarks)

The Ebay seller(s) should take into consideration how many potential buyers we send their way.

On May 14th, 1874, notorious bandido Tiburcio Vasquez was captured at the adobe home of "Greek George" Caralambo, near where Melrose Place in West Hollywood is now situated.

Vasquez Rocks Park, one of Hollywood's favorite locations for outdoor filming over several decades, is so named because Tiburcio Vasquez often used the area to avoid capture by law enforcement.

On May 14, 1904, Sunset Boulevard opened.

The Los Angeles Herald enthused:

“Los Angeles and Hollywood united yesterday in celebration of the opening of Sunset boulevard and its adjacent systems. The splendid highway was inspected by nearly 2,000 Los Angeles people, who proceeded to Hollywood in vehicles of every sort, ranging in design from a high-geared automobile to a goat cart."

On May 14, 1935, Griffith Observatory was formally opened with a ceremony for 500 invited guests.

The address of Inglewood High School is 231 S. Grevillea Ave. This would line up with the inscription "It is that little Japanese Park down in front of the high school."
I apologize for not being able to square up the photo but this UCSB aerial from 1934 shows Grevillea running upwards from bottom center, slanting from left to right. What may be the Grevillea Avenue Park System is across from the entrance to the high school and possibly four sections plus a part of the fifth are visible here.

On a side note, it appears that in 1934 Inglewood High School had an on-campus football field. For many years they have played their games at Coleman Stadium, formally known as Centinel Field a few blocks away. The band's marches to and from the games are spectacular.

Yes, this is definitely where the Japanese Park was. Unfortunately, kids ruined it. Below, Redondo Blvd. is now Florence Ave./Aviation Blvd., IIRC:

Along with the rock and student (those rascals) problems, I think some of the structures in the park (although cute and rustic) were not built to stand
the test of time and weather. The larger bridge in the background looked to be pretty substantial, but the small bridge and the covered structure seem
to be a little rickety. I think after fifteen or twenty years, things would have started looking pretty shabby, even without the aid of the students. Building
right across the street from a school also probably hurried along the deterioration process.
