I’m fairly certain that it’s closed due to the area being in the red phase.

Yes all public skating rinks are closed during red.

Excellent Huddle article about the recent "State of the Tri-Communities" presentation.

Greater Moncton Continues To Grow, Adding 10,000 People In Four Years
Jan 28, 2021by Inda Intiar
https://huddle.today/greater-moncton...in-four-years/

A few excerpts:

Quote:
Those 10,000 people are New Brunswickers “coming home,” and newcomers “finding home” in the region, Moncton Mayor Dawn Arnold said. Greater Moncton is the seventh fastest-growing census metropolitan area (CMA) in Canada, (on a per capita basis)
Quote:
The population growth is reflected in another record-breaking year for building permits in 2020, with over $270-million of permits granted in Moncton, mostly in residential and industrial developments.
Quote:
Infrastructure Investments

Moncton opened new or upgraded recreational infrastructure projects last year, including the new Centennial Beach and the new North End YMCA.

Dieppe too officially opened its new multi-purpose community and wellness centre Uniplex earlier this month. Last year, it officially opened Doiron House as a museum. The house was built in 1841 by Joseph Doiron

In Riverview, plans for the Riverview Recreation Complex has moved to the fundraising phase. The 71,000 square feet space for sports, events, public meetings, as well as cultural and community activities is expected to open in late 2023. The complex will include an eight-lane 25-metre pool, a separate leisure pool, a 200-meter padded walking track, a turf field house, multi-purpose rooms, and connections to the Mill Creek Nature Park
The grand total for building permits issued in 2020 for the trip-communities are as follows:
Moncton - $270M
Dieppe - $91M
Riverview - $25M

TOTAL - $386M

Anything over 10. It will (I believe) be the second tallest building in downtown Moncton. We have a number of buildings between 8-10 storeys, but the only one taller is Assomption Place at 20 storeys.

Wow yeah some interesting stuff. This is the new Kent building on Mapleton at the current D&R site. Nothing too unexpected there at first glance.

There's also a 24 unit building proposed on Newcombe drive.

A 5 story, 40? unit building on Highfield, complete with their own parking parkade it seems.

And the big news this beauty on Botsford and Victoria. 12 stories above ground, and it seems one of the amendments they are seeking would mean 2 or 3 below ground stories (parking/utilities, etc...)

If that gets approved and happens, it will certainly be a game changer for Moncton. (The "Lofts on Victoria" apartments next door might want to change their name when this is built. )

I really hope this comes to be. Be awesome to see more height downtown. One thing I wish that Bell Aliant would have done during the restoration of the NBTEL tower was put LED lighting on it and lit it up again.

That looks amazing, just behind Five Five Queen...nice look to the proposed building too. Be curious to know what that top floor is...that will have some view.

I've been curious as to what all of these projects would look like on a map, so I started a quick Google Maps layer.

Moncton Area Developments

The link should give you read-only access. I've built the various blocks from the bits gleaned through these threads but I'm sure there are:

1) a lot I missed
2) a lot I've gotten wrong (pics, addresses, names)
3) a lot I have the wrong dates on (some are done)

Green = Done recently
Yellow = In Progress
Red = Proposed 1-2 years out+

Ideally, it could be a group effort to tweak/fix/edit/add to it. If you have a google login and wanna participate, fire me a PM.

Truth be told, I thought of putting that one in but it's come-and-gone so many times that I didn't think it even warranted an orange "future sometime?" designation.
