And we have a crane! Surely must be temporary if its weighted down with concrete blocks for support! We wont see the real tower crane until the RC mat its poured, tying those massive pilings together.

Its not too often we see the foundation of a 120 story building, thanks for the pictures Imre and Malec!

Yes it's temporary. It'll be used for lifting the insane amount of rebar needed for this foundation.

Some info about the foundation:

There will be around 5,000 tonnes of rebar and 15,000 m^3 of concrete used.

Nakheel, Emaar, etc are royally screwed but this tower ploughs on since it's built by a private developer so isn't limited by Dubai Inc's debt.

That is one hugh hole. Lot of caissons as well. I guess the ground is not very stable in Dubai? (I say this because of the spacing of the caissons.)

This is one hell of a foundation. I cant help but to be amazed by it. More pictures please, and hopefully someone will capture the concrete pour in a time lapse, this has got to be amongst the worlds biggest, thickest RC slabs.

^^ Imre will definitely be there. He can see the site from his window and our insider on SSC will also tell him a few days before exactly when it happens. I might also happen at the end of this month.
