Of course there are places with more lively nightlife. Vancouver could improve in many ways. But as you admit, your post was extreme in painting an inaccurate picture of a dead downtown.

people find the nightlife they want in this town - most of the stuff my friends and i are into are mopre alternative or underground so granville street offers us nothing, but we enjoy walking down the street on any night

anyway back to sears - when does the store officially close? the final sale is on now? so a september closure?

^The last day is Sunday Oct 7th with cosmetics closing sooner in september.
The hand over to Cadillac Fairview is Oct 31st.

they are renovating the entire building

they closed a long time - more than a year closer to 2 when they converted eatons and this is a much larger renovation than that was

This is all great news of course, but still rather a mystery to the general public, even on SSP Vancouver. When will some official renderings be available?

There's difference between affordable and buying the dredge and clearance of a store. If they were like an outlet and made a special, lower priced line like they do at Gap Factory stores, Banana Republic outlets or Calvin Klein outlets and others then maybe.....but an entire store filled with rejects from the main store? No thanks. Give me the real Nordstrom.

Most affordable retailers cannot afford the rents of pacific centre.

Holts and HBC have had decades to "up their game" and they have proven to be incapable of running their operations to the same degree Nordstroms can. I don't think Nordstrom is at all worried about the time.

This is as fast as it could be done regardless. This is not a simple redo of the interior, the entire building will be stripped and reclad, new common mall areas will be added, new entrances to the mall will be added. This is a major project.

It would be great to see the basement level of Sears extended as part of the Pacific Centre mall circulation with new stores....and dare I say, wishful thinking here, a second Vancouver City Centre Station entrance on Robson Street on the southeast corner of the building?

That's been mentioned before and judging by LeftCoaster's response a good bet.
They did the same thing at the Toronto Eaton Centre some 24 years ago.

to be fair the Bay under canadian ownership, they had decades to fix up and did nothing, when lord & taylor took over the bay has improved and continues to improve greatly in the last few years

NRDC owns Lord & Taylor and they bought HBC in 2008 from another american somebody zucker

Hudson's Bay Co. has been sold to a new American owner, NRDC Equity Partners, the parent of upscale U.S. chain Lord & Taylor.

HBC's first American owner was South Carolina businessman Jerry Zucker, who bought the venerable retailer in January 2006 for $1.1 billion. Zucker died of cancer in April.

While the value of the deal hasn't been publicly disclosed, representatives for the Bay and NRDC have said it's "slightly" higher than the initial sale price of $1.1 billion.

Under the terms of the deal, NRDC — which has 47 Lord & Taylor stores in the United States — would launch 10 to 15 of the stores in Canada. They will be located in existing Bay stores or in other HBC real estate.

NRDC, which is based in Purchase, N.Y., also owns Fortunoff, a U.S. jewelry and home furnishings chain of stores, and clothing design firm Creative Design Studios.

"By acquiring Hudson's Bay Co. along with previous acquisitions Lord & Taylor and Fortunoff, we will have an unprecedented opportunity to recreate the retail landscape in North America,” said Baker.

Yes like I said they are both owned by PE.

And HBC manages Lord and Taylor on behalf of their PE owners.

Anyway its a trivial point so sorry for bringing it up. I do agree HBC is turning htings around but bottom line is Nordstrom is one of the best run stores in the world so the bay merely turning it around from near rock bottom isn't going to concern Nordstrom one bit
