Going to redo the floors next. There's a little too much texture on the tower as-is.

That's better.

A survey of the two types of cladding methods used in the first 3 floors. The lobby area on Greenwich uses a cable-net tension system to virtually eliminate framing. The retail area uses a more conventional framing method, though the panes of glass are very large. They size up to 10 feet x ~15 feet.

Messing around with the X-braces. This one should be done tomorrow...(realizes it's 4AM)...err...sometime today.

Exterior is pretty much done at this point. Next up is the top of the building, and then the lobby and finally the core and I'm done with this one.

These perspective shots are well appreciated; something you won’t see in any of the renders. That last shot gives you a good idea of the monumental size of these towers, and they aren’t even the two largest on the site.

3 World Trade Center

Test render of the video screen.

Lobby is finished for now. I'll come back to it when I start work on the concourse, which I'll do as part of the transit hub.

Roof details

Overview

Facade removed

Tower detail

Church and Cortlandt. Note that the X-braces are separated from the curtain wall.

From Fulton, just east of 1 World Trade.

Top floor, corner office. Best view in the whole city, if you ask me.

wow, that second to last render is a-m-a-z-i-n-g! i love it! but i think the tower would look much more completed if there was a green roof above the podium. i mean, what's gonna be on top of it anyways?

That building is a beauty and a beast, all in one.

It will be an outdoor plaza of sorts, presumably for the working population. There's a similar one planned for 15 Penn Plaza.

OMG!
Your work is amazing, an inspiration for us all.
If I could model 1/10 of your skill, I would be pleased.
In the skyline shots, did you model all the buildings?
Each and every one of them? If not, where did you get them?
Was this work done in 3D Max, or Cinema 4D?
Did you use the standard included rendering or something else?
Great work, easily surpasses your Dubai stuff!

3 World Trade Center (continued)

^The bulk of the city was purchased. I have little interest in compiling vast quantities of GIS data and converting it into a mesh.

3DS Max 2011, with no extra shaders or addons. Straight Mental Ray.

STR, you'll have to pm me with a quick and easy way to set up a simple daylit scene like this in mental ray. I know how to do it easily with Vray for Max 2011, but my mental ray scenes always look somewhat off. Your's looks perfect. And keep up the excellent work. Absolutely superb modeling.

^PM Sent, though the key is getting the materials right. Glazing, in particular, has odd properties that take time to tweak. But it's the difference between the last set of renders and one of the first here:

It's also why the NYC background model always looks like crap. But...that thing has about 400 texture maps I'd have to edit...so screw it. For now at least. But if you're staring at the Woolworth Building, you're not looking at the right part of the render in the first place. So it's not a priority.

Thanks for the response STR.
Your work is truly an inspiration!
Could you pm the settings to me too please?

If they had your renders a few years ago,
most people would have liked the new designs more.
(Noticed I didn't say better than the twins).

15 Penn Plaza and Manhattan West twin-ish towers

From Empire State.

Trespassing on an open lot a block south.

NOTE: ESB was ~40 feet too short in this shot because I didn't correct for elevation when placing it.

Zoomed out showing Manhattan West (ditto on ESB).

^Yeah...well the buildings 15 Penn block look a hell of a lot worse than 15 Penn. If anything, they're doing everyone a favor. If one insists on looking at Manhattan West, there's Top of the Rock or the World Trade Center.
