Highway 6 certainly doesn't need to be twinned very far. To Warren, or maybe St. Laurent at most. I drive it's entire length through southern Manitoba and the Interlake twice a week, and I think that twinning would be a waste of money.

It's probably a good idea. It would cost a great deal of money, but if it was done right, it would certainly shorten the time it takes to get to Churchill for passengers or freight. More important IMO though, is the work being done on the northern portion of the rail. It will allow for a return to shorter travel times to Churchill when it's complete.

Why would you twin an underused highway?

Unless Thompson ends up being a booming town that would rival and/or surpass Fort McMurray, AB in terms of general economy, it will probably never happen.

Ok come on highway 6 is not a under used highway. But Twinning the whole length of it wouldn't be that great of an idea, maybe a few kilometers of it from the Perimeter.

I agree that Highway 6 definitely does not need to be twinned, except maybe up to Highway 236 (where traffic counts drop from about 6,000 to 4,000) concurrently with CentrePort Canada.

Of the main highways entering Winnipeg, Highway 2 is the least busiest (and probably should be closed and relocated to the service road at Highway 3).

Even then it wouldn't need twinning since the road to Fort Mac is two lane undivided. Imho, the only highways that may need twinning are 59, at least up to and including 52 to Steinbach, and maybe to Grand Beach, and perhaps 8 to Gimli. But the best way to know for certain is to measure traffic volumes as everyone alluded to.

Kenneston & Bishop Grandin will see an interchange, as funding was announced a couple weeks ago.

The interchange at route 90 and the Perimeter is now on the top of the list for the province of Manitoba. I expect it will be announced within the next year as part of the plans for Centre Port infrastructure.

There will also be at least 2 interchanges on Centre Port Way.

Ok, heres a question about MB interchange.

What the HELL is up with the "interchange" on the North Perimeter highway and Hwy 59 anyway? I mean I know theres plans to FINISH it.... but WHO designed it this way? What were they thinking???

I tried to loop around from the UoM to McPhillips a little while ago and was completely dumbfounded by how "through traffic" has to make two turns to get
though. I almost missed the second turn.

Who designed this thing? I mean, I understand that the highest volume traffic flow is heading northbound (to cottage and beach land), but COME ON... What were they thinking????

/end rant

"At the time" it was zero lanes on the east side.

The priority order for Perimeter interchanges IMO:

- Highway 59N (planned/under construction?)
- St. Mary's Road (BADLY needed, probably with twinning of St. Mary's south of Warde to the Perimeter)
- Highway 15/Dugald Road
- Highways 2/3
- St. Anne's Road
- Highway 6 (concurrent with CentrePort Canada)
- Highway 409/Pipeline Road
- Highway 330
- Gunn Road or Springfield Road (for the NE industrial area)

The one at St Mary's and the perimeter is not "Badly needed" as you state... Have you ever had to wait more than one light at that intersection? For the 10s of millions that it would cost to build one, I don't think it is even close to necessary...

Probably not. I actually remember them building that interchange when I was a kid. The north Perimeter Hwy. ended at Lagimodiere Blvd. and the bulk of the traffic actually went north on 59 which is why you have a curved low speed 2 lane overpass. Northbound traffic on Lagimodiere had an on-ramp to go over the same bridge and proceed west on the Perimeter. The interchange made sense for the needs of the time, but yes, now it's just a mess in need of a new interchange. Rather stupid that they left a new interchange out when they completed the north Perimeter.
