This is San Diego... apparently Bowie Pies branched out. Its SD outlet in 1943 (per the CD) was at 1147 Front Street; the view is south on Front toward the Pickwick Hotel, now the Sofia.

I'm glad you solved the mystery GW, but I'm a little disappointed the photographs aren't of Los Angeles.
I was leaning towards Long Beach as the location.

The site is now on the south-west corner of Wilmington Waterfront Park (formerly known as the Harry Bridges Boulevard Buffer Project). The picture below is looking west, so Shipwreck Joey's was in the top left corner of the green area.

Around 1943 my family lived in Coast Guard housing in Wilmington...wondering if anyone had info/pictures of the area.

LA newspapers in yesteryear had a whole crew of artists who handpainted these b/w lines on photos. They kind of give the reader a visual of the event. Some are just a straight fall and others hit a ledge. Sometimes we can even see a loop-de-loop.

The Porter Sanitarium seems to have been built in this location in 1924, and before that to have been at Burnett, "two miles from Long Beach." (Where exactly is or was Burnett?)

By 1930, if this is the same organization, it appears to have moved to Pasadena:

While searching the 1915 city directory for the Porter Sanitarium (to no avail) I came across this Milk Diet Sanitarium on Friend Avenue.
