Dangerously irresponsible photography - driving through Vancouver (and North Shore)

Today was a rare day when I got to drive a car home from work, so I whipped out the cell phone for some rush-hour photography out the front of my windshield.

And the title is just a cheap plea for attention Most photos were taken at a red light. And the ones that werent were taken without me even looking at the viewfinder with both hands on the wheel (for every photo that turned out there were about 10 that didn't).... so no lives were in danger... well, no more than usual when I drive.

1. The one photo not taken from inside the car. I work below that revolving restaurant in the background (starting this week anyway).

2. Vancouver likes skinny skyscrapers.

3. City of glass.

4.

5.

6.

7.

8. Making my way towards Lions Gate Bridge to the North Shore where I live.

9. Must... steer... straight... my only at-fault accident was on this bridge (some idiot trying to commit suicide caused a four car pile up... I was car #4!)

10.

11.

12.

13. Wish I could've looked back to the right for some skyline shots. It looked amazing. But that probably would've resulted in me driving into oncoming traffic. See, I have some restraint!

14. Officially across the "moat" to the North Shore.

15. Getting close to my condo... the building on the left was just finished.

16. Home sweet home...

Sweet tour-on-wheels, Pinion. The Lion's Gate bridge is always a little sketchy.

Someone died in a multi-car crash in this spot just minutes ago. The bridge is shut down, saw it on the news.

It's not like it's a difficult bridge to drive. The lanes are wide enough now. I think it's the views that kill more than anything, although a lot of people have also been killed on the causeway so go figure.

I don't find it scary at all since they put the sidewalks on the outside of the thingamajiggers (yes that is the technical term). But I never would've tried to take photos on the pre-widened lanes. One six inch drift to the left and you're hitting a bus in the olden days.

(the bridge was originally built for one lane each way, for those not familiar with it)

I think the height makes people a little woozy too, especially if you're coming out of Stanley Park and not expecting to suddenly be suspended over the Pacific Ocean:

It's got that Vancouver look to it.

Thanks for the pics. If I ever get a camera phone I hope it's as good as yours. It's too bad you didn't get a skyline shot from the bridge but perhaps it is best that you'll now at least live to take pictures another day.

Great shots, but if we don't hear from you again, we will have an idea of how you met your demise shooting pics.
