Satellite imagery

Google Earth hasn't been updated for Halifax in a while but there's some satellite imagery from 2018 available on zoom.earth:

https://zoom.earth/#view=44.644244,-63.579435,17z

Maybe this means that 2019 stuff will be up soon?

A composite image of the downtown area:

It's surprising to me how little space is taken up by the stands at the Wanderer Grounds, and that's seating for around 6,000 people. Not much would have to change to get 20,000 seats in there.

Good find! Some changes I noticed:
  • LeMarchant school rebuild
  • giant new parking lot near BIO that is very visible from the Mackay
  • rebuild of SMU arena
  • deforesting around the 102/103 interchange reconstruction
  • huge expansion of Bayers Lake, where the new outpatient clinic is unfortunately set to be built

Google Earth has new imagery from September 14. You can even see the collapsed crane!

Select View->Historical Imagery. The new set isn't the default as it is of inferior quality.

Awesome!!! After looking at it and enjoying it, I had never realized the Wanderer's Stadium, was slightly off. It's tilted slightly to the right, although at group perfectly square.

I haven't been down to the Wanderers ground since about the mid-2000s when I played football there and it was kind of a dump then. The upgrades look good from photo/satellite but it would nice go back in person.

When I played tier-1 youth soccer Halifax Wanderers were always a well established club (at youth level at least) it was a shame it was merged about 15 years ago, most likely due to demographics. Having a professional version is still a nice throwback though!

Imagery has been updated in Google Maps that shows the new TCH104 construction between Sutherlands River and where the new highway swings south of Marshy Hope as far as Pushie Road. From there into Antigonish...still the old imagery

I wonder when they will update the 3D imagery for Halifax. It is quite old now.

Or Streetview, some Ontario streets have two 2021 captures while HFX is stuck in 2019.

I thought maybe this was because of the isolation requirement for NS during the pandemic. They don't have NS listed for 2021 either.

I saw a Google car out and about earlier this week, so it will probably be updated soon.

I think you'd be very happy to see it as it is today! Especially if you're there on Game day!!

The streetview update schedule now has entries for NS and NB listed as "09/2021-11/2021":

https://www.google.com/streetview/explore/

Looks like it includes a lot of different areas though poor PEI didn't get a listing there.

Not sure how long it takes them to put up the new imagery or if they do it incrementally vs. all at once after having been to a region.

There's now some 2021 imagery up for Halifax. Most of downtown seems not to be covered. I wonder if there's still more to come.
