Case 18721 Drawings

While this project is still far from perfect this is a major step in the right direction. The number of above ground parking spots has been cut in half, the building is now "full" and does not include a breezeway, and the commercial area has increased. I still wish that HRM would force them to upgrade the bike lanes and install a sidewalk but this is the best we will probably get.

This building will apparently be called The Avella.

I was hoping, when I realized that yet another chunk of the basin view was going to disappear, that it would be a project far more impressive/substantial. This is a bit of a disappointment for me.

The red metal panel and stone laminate give a 1950's motel look. The cladding probably wasn't even inexpensive, just poorly chosen. Luckily it is out in Bedford

I am noting more and more projects done by Fares that are designed poorly or at least in a less than inspiring manner. This is bad in that they seem to be the most active developer in the area at the moment so we are getting a lot of crummy development. More attention to better design would do them and the city a lot of good.

Unfortunately it's even uglier in person. Whomever chose the colours and materials for that building failed miserably, IMHO.

Yes, it's located in the evil Bedford, but it's right on the main drag for thousands to "enjoy" every day...

Is that stone laminate or real stone (laid piece by piece)? If it is real stone, the owner spent quite a bit of money on a poor result.

(Luckily, I can't offend anyone by quoting myself)

Someone must have gotten a deal on a large quantity of red metal vertical siding and is unloading it everywhere. I notice that the Mic Mac Aquatic club in Dartmouth is replacing the ugly 1970s white vinyl siding with this stuff. I suspect it will be no less ugly when the job is finished.

To me it is sooooooooooo sad that a low stretched out building is now blocking any view of the water. I would much prefer a couple of taller buildings with space between, but I suppose since everybody in Halifax is so scared of height that's the best a developer can do.
