In addition to the new 1200-seat Sovereign concert venue announced last week, the Grand Center Arts and Entertainment District's options keep expanding.

Below, recently opened in a renovated building is the High Low literary arts/writers center, which includes a cafe and library.

There are spaces for writers, poets, readers and eaters at the new High Low, a literary arts center and cafe in Grand Center.

“I think it’s going to be a beautiful place,” says Jane Ellen Ibur, the poet laureate for St. Louis. “Everyone is thrilled to be there.”

Although the building on Washington Boulevard is still getting its finishing touches, particularly the cafe space, events are taking off, bar service has commenced and some nonprofit groups have moved into offices.

As for the library, the books will rotate, but it will feature books, magazines, and articles curated by those in the literary community.

Also on the first floor, a 600-square-foot temperature-and-humidity-controlled gallery (that can open up to 2,600 square feet) will host five to six rotating literary-arts-focused exhibits a year.

In the back of the first floor, there are plans for a 2,000-square-foot, 200-capacity performance space dedicated to poetry readings, storytelling, literary series, and book signings.

Most exciting are the writing spaces.

Upstairs, The High Low will feature two work areas. One is a writers’ suite, which will have desks and partitioned spaces available for writers, and will serve as the home for the forthcoming writers-in-residence program

The new center is forging a new paradigm for childhood development that is actually centuries old: children should be outside and when they aren't outside, then bring the outdoors inside. Nature, whether one is inside or outside, is a constant presence."

That Benson-Hill construction pic is a beautiful shot of the valley. I like how Warson Road gently descends into the Chesterfield Valley. Nice shot.

You're right. What do I know? I'm a city boy.

That "Manchester Valley" area is pretty scenic aerially too. The rolling hills.

People underestimate St. Louis' scenic beauty. Even some locals.

Here are some awesome progress photos of Ballpark Village taken by Chris Stritzel of Cityscene-STL.com. He's also a member of this forum and urbanstl.com.

There's an opening day rush to have a chunk of Phase II nearly completed. Phase III will be announced in the future.

The STL metro area is booming with new residential - particularly the Chesterfield Valley - due to jobs at Bayer, Pfizer etc.

The City of Chesterfield is anti-highrise so the Chesterfield Valley, albeit beautiful, is a sprawling valley replete with low and mid rises.

I'm actually surprised they allowed an apartment community so dense (345-units) to be built.

A new $80 million mixed-use development, known as The Pearl at Wildhorse Creek, broke ground in Chesterfield last September near the southwest corner of Interstate 64 and Wild Horse Creek Road.

The first phase of Wildhorse includes 188 apartments. Phase two of the project includes 25,000-square-foot retail space, 128-room Marriott AC hotel and conference center, and an upscale restaurant at 16511 Wild Horse Creek Road.

Below are awesome construction progress photos of the $300+ million remake of City Foundry St. Louis (an old motor plant) in Midtown taken by Chris Stritzel, urbanstl.com forumer.

Remember: This is an old motor plant/foundry.

Below, former old railroad trestles and concrete pillars in the complex will be redone to act as a connector to the Chouteau Greenway which skirts along CORTEX and the Washington University Medical Center.

Below, MetroLink traverses CORTEX and a sliver of Chouteau (pronounced, shu toe) Greenway. St, Louisans tend to say, "SHOWTOW".

Clayton has it's relevance however it doesn't have what downtown St.Louis has to offer...There maybe more new construction going on in Clayton only because there wasn't really anything there to begin with as in old historic buildings.. You have the Shell Building being renovated as well the Chemical Building will begin reno's this year perhaps Jefferson Arms will begin to see movement among other projects happening in downtown St.Louis new soccer stadium possibly announcement of a 3rd phase on BPV among other developments..So downtown St.Louis is quietly coming back to life and theres a lot more relevance to that along with Claytons.

St. Louis Holocaust Museum & Learning Center plans $18 million expansion
Valerie Schremp Hahn
St. Louis-Post-Dispatch

On Monday, the museum announced an $18 million expansion and endowment that will triple the size of its existing facility, now at the northwest corner of Lindbergh Boulevard and Schuetz Road on the I.E. Millstone Jewish Community Campus.

A May 2020 groundbreaking is planned, with completion in late 2021. The St. Louis Holocaust Museum is one of just 22 Holocaust museums in the United States.

Holocaust survivors, religious leaders, and elected officials were at the announcement this morning. The expansion will triple the space of the existing facility to 35,000 square feet.

The museum gets 30,000 visitors a year, and about 20,000 of them are students; admission is free. It is in touch with about 30 Holocaust survivors who live in the St. Louis metro area.
