I really want to like this project, but the more I see renderings of it, the less it grows on me. Perhaps, I feel like I should based on the band hype wagon...

I wonder if this development were in any other city, it would seem more underwhelming. Its essentially a red mid-century pile of boxes that I thought design consenus had moved on from, but I guess everything old is new again. It seems to detract from the cohesiveness of the district as originally planned; not to mention there now seems to be a lot of red going on in the area along with the Bulletin Building facade - that kind of red should pop, not bleed.

Its different to say the least in terms of a contemporary context, but I speculate if the developer starts skimping on matierials etc, the final product could easily become something of a regret.

What they should do is take the shape and facade of the design and copy it and put it on top but flip it for the stability of the structure. I think it would look even greater as a supertall imo!

I think it's designed to reflect the Bulletin bldg. That explains it's squat, simple stack of uneven boxes. It's the red color that makes it pop! Unfortunately, this building will only be tall as it needs to be in square footage and height. We have to keep in mind that this is not NYC. We don't have it's population nor money for a lot of supertalls with the best designs and materials, but we do ok. However, compared to most cities, Philly's skyline is an eye opener that is beginning to define our big city. It all started with the Liberty Place towers, then the world began to notice this huge statue of a dude on top of tower called city hall.

Totally agree now that you say that.

I immediately thought of this building as well when first seeing the renderings.

Also, on a small scale, there's some resemblance to the proposed design for 2222 market.

I actually love that Rohm and Haas Building. It's so 60s cool in a brutalist way. I can just imagine all those Rohm and Haas executives out on those balconies smoking and drinking at 9:30 am after their long 20 minute commutes.

Plus, the ground floor under 3001 is screaming for a Beer Garden a la Independence Beer Garden.

This is a great space. Is there a strong Mon-Fri crowd? It's been a while, but it's always been pretty empty when I've gone in on weekends. Place is really disconnected from the street. I doubt the tourists even realize it's there.

They do most of their business on the weekdays from the office workers. But, it's in a tourist spot right next to Independence Visitor Center, so they get those too.

There’s a mock up now with a red/maroon metal panel showing the future facade for the Bulletin and new tower. (Must’ve been placed there over the weekend?)...

Now I understand why the reclad is red. It matches with 3001 JFK.

My best friend’s sister’s boyfriend’s brother’s girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who’s going with a girl who saw Furness pass-out at 31 Flavors last night.
