The cities tallest as snuck its way in on the corner of Gloucester and 5th. The Parriot Hotel was built in 1978 and
rises to 171m. Its a classic late influenced International Style skyscraper with a grid framed granite facade broken
into five storey bands. The building has dated fairly well and it had an overhaul in 2004 when Parriot refurbished
the entire block. There is a large underground carpark and a popular restaurant on 43rd and 44th floors....

Work in progress render.

Great job as always!

Post 160: Great texturing especially on the building with the laundry service on the first floor! I'd like to know how you made that texture. Is that from a single photo? If so, how did you manage to texture the sides of those window bays so smoothly? The texture doesn't look distorted at all. Distortion is what I would expect when making a texture of this kind of facade from a single photo.

Post 162: I especially like the lighting of this scene. Looks very natural.

Post 163: The building feels more like a 2000's design than a 70's design but maybe that's because of the overhaul. Very nice design nevertheless.

Awesome work as usual! I can't wait to see the Parriot Hotel in context with it's surroundings.

The textures for that building were a f**king pain in the ass! I actually made separate textures for the bay as opposed to wrapping the
building due to that very problem of distortion. To be honest I don't like the finished building much I'll probably stick to flatter faced buildings in future!
And you're right Vellu the Parriot does look quite modern with its glass, that was because of the 2004 overhaul.

Here's a rear view of the Parriot Hotel. Services and delivery entrance. I probably spent far too long concentrating on this, particularly
as its not usually going to be seen in the model, but I do like the backs of buildings which are not usually seen.

Very convincing! The base looks very realistic. Materials and lighting look very good as does the model itself. This is real eye candy.

Great picture! It's hard to believe this exists only in your computers memory, it's so realistic - both in terms of detail and architecture.

I like how the picture looks a bit more like a very accurate drawing rather than a photo. Is that a result of post-prosessing or rendering settings?

Wow I could stare at that last render for hours and continuously find something new! The graffiti adds a nice realistic touch, I particularly like the detail given to the backside of the Parrott Hotel.

Combination of both I'd say. I use anti aliasing on a high setting as I don't like the hard/crisp edges you sometimes get with rendering.
Even so I usually add a little blur in post processing, plus with that pic I added a slight yellow hue to the overall look of the image.

This is incredible!

Is this city located anywhere particular in NA? Is it coastal, landlocked, on a river etc?

What is the current file size?

Interesting as I am considering this aspect right now. I already have a location in mind. It will be a coastal city, but industrial
in nature - think NYC rather than LA in nature. I am already considering how to show more context - further thoughts to come on this subject.

1.22Gb for the full size model inc textures.

Great close-ups! The modeling and texturing and detail is perfect, but you need better trees for these kind of shots.

It seems that companies in Pinghattan are really honest in telling what their true motives are :-D

Indeed, all my trees and plants are free models downloaded. I have no patience to make my own.

Render looking along 6th towards the Parriot

Future plans

I want to try and push the envelope on this city somehow. Its still covers just 4 and a bit blocks, a tiny area, although detailed.
I am craving a bigger city, however in order to do this the detail will have to drop considerably. The plan is that the detailed
downtown area will gradually become simpler in detail level until its just facade textures on blocks (rather than time consuming
actual recessed windows etc). The detailed part will be where I plan to follow under construction projects, whilst giving the city
a larger backdrop and context using less time consuming modelling. I already have a base context in mind - a model I started making
a while ago (never posted it) which is huge and would allow this detailed fragment to be inserted. I would have to stitch
the two elements together somehow, but feel it could be successful.

Anyway enough for now.

Another great shot with a very natural looking lighting. I guess that 24 hr parking is full as those German tourists had to park their Mercedes on the street

Your future plans sound very interesting, I'm really looking forward to see them realized.

It's especially those little things that makes this city feel so real, like that little sign on that fence. Is there possibly a future construction site behind that fence?
