Don't forget the Hamilton Tigers - the greatest team in the history of the NHL.

They would have won the Stanley Cup in '25 but they went on strike! I still haven't got over that...

Forge FC (CPL) bucked the trend by going with orange and grey.

In amateur sports, both the Hamilton Hornets RFC and Hamilton Wildcats (AFL) are also black and gold.

Always struck me as a "Sister Steel City" type of thing with Pittsburgh, where black and gold are the MLB, NHL and NFL team colors. I don't think it was intentional though.

From the exciting world of corporate naming rights, a new name for Bell MTS Place is coming on July 1... Canada Life Centre.

"We don't want any more Rogers or Bell arena names"
"Ok. Here's Canada Life Centre"
"No not like that."

Given the overall unpopularity of the telcos I think Canada Life will be more warmly received than Bell MTS. To the extent that people actually care, I mean... I don't think most people will.

I for one welcome the change.

That is a nice arena. Modest, right-sized, well designed. Integrates very well with the area.

I wonder how long people will still call it MTS Centre. I still call Scotiabank Arena the ACC and Rogers Centre by its original name of Skydome.

Do we end up like Ottawa where people just call it whatever it was named when they came of age?

I think the Ottawa phenomenon happens when a venue's name changes multiple times... I have to stop and think about what its current name is.

People here will probably take to Canada Life Centre but I'm sure a lot of people will also just keep referring to it as MTS Centre, or simply call it the arena...

The worst possible name for a venue!

The CLC has nice ring to it.

My favorite arena hands down is Scotiabank Arena but my favorite stadiums besides Rogers Centre and BMO Field are: Olympic Stadium in Montreal and BC Place in Vancouver hands down.

Here is a conceptual rendering of development proposed around McMahon stadium in Calgary. This came out in the Herald yesterday.. not sure exactly what upgrades would be made to the stadium, other than what I see is connected to the stadium

What are the chances that Calgary does the Euro-style in situ rebuild? Demolish and rebuild one grandstand now, then do the next one 5 years down the road, and then add some end zone seats a few years after that. Boom. Done.

Personally, I like McMahon, other than desperate upgrades required for larger concourse and bathroom facilities. Also install seats with backing/ larger personal space for each seat, which would reduce overall capacity but that’s fine as that is the trend and makes for a more “full” stadium anyway. Sight lines at McMahon are awesome from anywhere other than that patio behind the north end zone

Took a quick walk by THF today, and see that all the turf is gone. I guess it's about time to replace after opening in 2014? 7 years of use?

Good stuff.

I've been wondering when IG Field would get the same treatment... the turf has been in place since 2013 and there are now patches in the endzones after the NFL preseason game in 2019. By contrast, TD Place's turf dated back to 2014 IIRC and they've already replaced it.

They are probably preparing THF for the Grey Cup. It's going to be weird having the Grey Cup in mid-December.
